De Haan (The Hen) is one of the few places on the Belgian coast not blighted by horrible modern development and tall concrete buildings. It's dominated by attractive early 20th century buildings and features a charming old tram station which is part of the Knokke-Ostend coastal line. The restaurant at the Hotel des Brasseurs isn't bad - we sat in the glassed in verandah section of what is clearly an old establishment. As unfortunately is usually the case in Flanders, not much of the patina of the original has been allowed to survive (noble exceptions include the Cafe du Parc in Ostend, the Court St Georges in Ghent and Old Tom's in Ypres). But good sole, mussels and friendly service. The restaurant's about a ten minute walk to the promenade above the wide beach, loved by Einstein apparently, and into the dunes.

We stayed for 3 nights in hotel des brasseurs and had a lovely time with our 2 kids. Lots to do: Going to the beach, extensive walking in the forests and go karting are just some of the activities. The hotel offers a good restaurant and busy bar, the rooms are spacious and clean and the staff is very friendly.

Ate on a quiet Sunday night, menu choice was average. We ordered steaks although menu did not state cut or indeed animal presumed beef, salmon, and cod with various sauces. Fish dishes very good, but the meat a little tough. Service was not great in fact I think staff were waiting for us to go home so they could lock up. One of the children had a novelty ice cream which had been partly eaten, defrosted and re frozen, changed with little fuss but no apology, espresso was awful. Overall bill was 159 euro for 4 adults and 2 children which for the quality and experience was not good value, would not eat there again.

We had a late lunch here as they are one of the few restaurants open past 2pm. The restaurant is called Danny's but it's written Hotel Des Brasseurs outside. It is next to the tram station and have both a nice indoor area with large windows and also a large outdoor terrace. Prices were very reasonable paying 17.50 for 900 gr of moules + frittes with white wine. Also the day's special which was a generous portion of stuffed quail and potato croquettes and salad for 16 euro. Good value for money. Pleasant setting. Multi lingual and friendly waitress.

We have just spent a fortnight at Des Brasseurs Hotel in De Haan. It is set in an ideal situation right by the tram station. And just a 10 minute walk to the fanstatic sandy beach. The Hotel itself is clean and the staff are great very friendly and curtious. We had a lovely continental breakfast in the morning which was buffet style. And if you didnt fancy going out to find a resturant in the evening then the food that was served in the evening was extremely good. Infact we had the best steak we have ever had there. Getting around was easy as you can buy a 7 day pass for the tram which travels the full length of Belgium all along the coast so you can get off and on when you see somewhere that you would like to see. The trams run every 15 minutes so if you miss one there is only a little amount of time to wait for the next. Will definetly be going again

hi we ate twice in the restaurant of des brasseurs on a holiday to belgium,we were staying in the next resort wenduine which was only half open as the locals were telling me early june is still classed as winter ,meals at des brasseurs were very reasonably priced compared to wenduine restaurants and i found the service very good, all the family enjoyed the food and i would definitely use again when we return to the area,it has a perfect location right next to the tram stop so it was easy to dine here and travel back to our resort,my only complaint would be i orderd off the menu atlantic sole expecting a flatfish but received four fish that i have no idea what they were but they deinitely werent sole.

We found this hotel lovely the rooms although basic but adequate were kept clean with maid coming in every day. The staff were great and easy to get along with. We often stayed for an evening meal and found this very good quality. We would definelty go back again and would recommend it to anyone. It was also in a good location right next to the tram station
