We decided to stay in Luebbenau for a couple of nights as an antidote to a few busy days in Berlin. It was easy to reach on the train. I noticed a special offer on their website for two nights which included breakfast and an evening meal, so we chose that deal. The staff were welcoming and there was a cosy ambience in the bar/dining area. Our room was enormous with a huge shower room ensuite (no bath). There was a large old-fashioned TV in our room which didn't work. I complained about this, but I think there was some problem with the aerial and it remained off for the duration of our stay, which was a shame. The staff were apologetic and compensated us with a bottle of wine when we left.
Our stay was comfortable. The food was very good, although the portions were far too generous. The restaurant is obviously popular with the locals.
Luebbenau was very much out-of-season, so it was a quiet couple of days, which we enjoyed, but I guess the Spreewald region is best seen during... more
