I love this hotel! The rooms do vary considerably. The hotel just opened a new wing this summer, the rooms there are wonderful. Also, the hotel has a new spa. We had a booking in Vinje camping but we reached very late (around 1:30 a.m.). There was some misunderstanding about where they'd left our key ... so we had to find alternate accomodation. So we stayed the night in Union. Bad: Didn't find the hotel having any *real* character ... it's like any chain hotel. And overpriced for the quality.... more

Stayed one night as part of a tour, as commented if you want the experience make sure you get a room with a view ours looked over the back and up to the mountains (see photo). The view is indeed magnificent. You are right on the fjord, but keep in mind that you should book a room with a view, or you will see the parking. Visited this hotel off-season, during spring. We got a free upgrade to a room with a view over the fjord. It was simply breathtaking, magnificent! We ate a buffet dinner at the hotel.
