We found this hotel after driving around the switchback roads of the Douro Valley. The scenery in this area is to die for and tourists are rare! Hence the lack of hotels. We had spent the day exploring and being so impressed by the beauty of the scenery and the tranquility of the region. Towards late evening we needed to find somewhere to stay but, as this area is so underdeveloped from a tourist point of view, we had trouble finding somewhere, until we discovered this absolute gem of a hotel. It is literally right on the River Douro.

We were greeted by the friendly receptionist and offfered a complimentary glass of port. We took the drink on the terrace overlooking the river beside the hotel's beautiful pool and the receptionist took our photo. Our room overlooked the river and the pool: the beauty and tranquility was simply amazing.
