My husband, our 21-year-old daughter and I stayed in the Dery Yire Hotel in Techiman in October, 2006, when we flew to Ghana to visit our daughter during her UC Berkeley semester abroad program. We were booked into the Dery Yire Hotel--otherwise known as the "Dreary Hotel"--by our tour guide. I do believe we were the only guests that night.
It is important to know why we stayed there. Techiman is halfway between the Ghana coast and Mole National Park, and unless you wish to make the long trip in a single day, Techiman and the Dery Hotel is the logical place to stay overnight. I do not blame our guide for booking us here; when there is no other choice, you take what's available. Nevertheless, I would like to pass on some of our experiences there.
Entry to the Dery hotel grounds is hardly grand. Bordered by a cement block wall and with a large, lone tree effectively (strategically?) blocking the view of the hotel's exterior, the red dirt parking lot directly...
