We rarely book a hotel ahead, but we wanted to be sure of great comfort and service over the Christmas holidays, especially because our daughter was joining us from Canada. We were not disappointed when we arrived and were shown our room high in the jungle above the reception and swimming pool. The management went out of their way to... more

After returning for the second time to Unawatuna we wanted to stay at Thaproban Beach House however it was fully booked and the other best alternative we saw was Thambapanni Retreat, the sister hotel of Thaproban. We were in Sri Lanka for a short holiday and our vacation could not have been better anywhere else. The hotel had a very... more

We had the superior sea view room on the top floor of the tower overlooking the trees and the sea. It was magical, even during a thunderstorm! The room was refreshed every day and flower arrangements made on the bed. The restaurant and room service seemed to be available whenever we wanted. The american breakfast was nice, there was a... more

I would like to Thank the writer for writing this review and letting us know about the staff working at Thambapanni Retreat. The Retreat's pool was newly done with glass mosaic tiles in May and now its very appealing and a favourite of our guests. We are very pleased to hear that she enjoyed our suites. Thank you.

Every morgning it was a joy to get up and be greeted by the smiling staff. If you visit the beauty of Unawatuna, make sure to... more

I was randomely searching the web for places to visit with my ten month old and I found Thambapanni. From the first contact on email to the one week that I spent at this lovely sleepy retreat was nothing but warm wlecoming and peaceful. I and my family had a lovely time with a hospitable kind staff, scrumptious meals, beautiful... more

I have visted Unawatuna many time and stay at either Thambapanni or its sister hotel Thaproban. Thambapanni Retreat is tucked away at the end of a narrow road only a couple of hundred metres from the beach. A totally different experience to staying on beach side. A friendly rivelary exists between the two hotels to be the best. The resort... more

The rooms are nice with lots of space and nice furniture but the blood stains from dead mosquitoes on the netting is a bit of a put off. For the money we spent ($80 for a superior room) you don't get much. The food in the restaurant is bad (and just as bad at the Thaproban down the road) and... more

Early this month we experienced lot of rain and after the rain there can be some mosquitoes as we have lot of green surroundings and as its common to any tropical country, however once you switch on the air conditioner in the room and the mosquito vaporizers which are provided in the room they will not be a problem. The...

This hotel is fantastic. We had a room with a balcony overlooking the sea that was incredibly impresive, high vaulted ceilings, acres of space. It was most definitely a large suite. The hotel surrounding is very nice with the trees, sea view and the visits of the monkeys. Both the service and food at the hotel were impeccable. The food... more

I just got back from my much awaited honeymoon at Thambapanni Retreat. The food here was fantastic. We had a candlelight dinner in front of the swimming pool one evening and thoroughly enjoyed the atmosphere, the drinks and food. The breakfasts were sumptuous with delicious tropical fruits. For those with ethnic tastebuds, the Sri Lankan food here is just as... more
