We have just returned from this hotel, is is lovely, peaceful and quiet - because it was only 30% full. No queing for breakfast or dinner in fact half the restaurant was empty, I would recommend this hotel to older couples BUT there was hardly any evening entertainment so early nights every night, only 1 restaurant out of 4 open,... more

First of all - we will go back! The location and potential of the hotel is fantastic, the service of the staff was efficient and very polite, the cleanliness is perfect. We booked Royal service bed and breakfast - not convinced Royal Service is worth much, except for a private breakfast room and lounge, business centre and a very nice... more

We stayed at the Gran Volcan in April this year - lovely hotel, very clean, good amenities, attractive comfortable rooms, beautiful swimming pool, good food. I was 7.5 months pregnant and with my 2 year old - could walk into Playa Blanca via lovely prom in about 45 mins, reckon I could have done it in 25 mins without the... more

Have just enjoyed a week in this hotel in a very beautiful and spacious setting. Lovely rooms and pleasant people. The drawbacks were the almost total lack of entertainment of any sort. Animateurs just sat in their club house handing out towels. All the advertised activities just didn't happen and apart from the odd saxophonist with two people listening to him... more

My husband and I have just returned from a weeks holiday in this hotel. It is one of the best hotels we have stayed in for location and peacefullness. We stayed on a B&B basis which was excellent. The choice was amazing as there was everything from bacon and eggs to toast and jam, fruit, yoghurts etc etc. We are... more

We have just returned from a two week stay at this hotel. It is graded a 5*L, however, we think in some respects it is only 5*, certainly not "luxury". Good points: 1. Excellent location a couple of minutes walk from the marina with its shops and restaurants. 2. Lovely landscaped grounds with sun loungers in various locations, not all... more

As other reviews have said the hotel has the feel of a small village and probably 3 or 4 years ago would have merited 5 stars however having stayed a many 5 star hotels on a number of the Canary Islands and elsewhere this is at best a reasonable 4 star experience. The rooms feel tired and the room-keeping questionable.... more

Perfect location overlooking Fuertaventura and the marina, which is very pretty. Hotel is beautifully designed and feels like a small greek village with pretty views at all angles. Pools are lovely, but cold. None feel heated and you need to be fairly hardy to brave them. Very few people swimming as a result, despite warm weather which in some ways... more

As this was my first trip to The Canaries, I was not expecting much from the place I had always heard referred to as 'Lanza-Grotty'. How wrong I was. If you look hard further along Playa Blanca, you will find plenty of red shoulders and baby-buggies but the facilites, staff and service at The Gran Melia were outstanding. I had... more

We recently returned from the Gran Melia Volcan, and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We had a fourth floor room which gave us a wonderful view of the sea / marina and we had a large terrace which gave good privacy. Having booked half board, we could not fault the breakfast and evening meals and there was an overwhelming choice at... more
