Stayed here for one night with business and it was absolutely horrendous. The lunch menu was weird but tasty. Poor choice and definitely low in quality. The room was hideous. Outdated which is fine but dirty is disgraceful! I had to clean the bathroom prior to using it. The food on the evening was also okay and more traditional. But... more

We did not stay at the hotel because it was fully booked, and based on the reviews here we are probably glad we didn't. We stayed at the Sun Hotel nearby and were very happy there. However, we held a typical Sunday lunch for 75 people as part of a wedding weekend and we were totally pleased by the location,... more

Stayed here last weekend to attend a wedding in St Paul Walden. Very few alternatives in the area and all look pretty awful. Paid £65 per night for bed and breakfast. The building looks good from the outside and there are beautiful grounds to the rear, but the interior is a nightmare. Horrendous 1980s glass atrium dominates the entrance area,... more

The Priory is a restful haven after a day touring the Hertfordshsire countryside or after strolling about the lovely town of Hitchin. We also valued the: Happy helpful staff Lovley lounge/conservatory to entertain guests with free coffee! Good breakfast choices Free safe car parking The park like setting of an estate. more

Stayed here for business so not my choice. Given the choice I wouldn't stay here again! On first impression everything seemed ok. On further inspection I found someones dirty underwear left in one of my bedroom drawers. Toe nail clippings in the carpet and a general look to the carpet like it hadnt been hoovered. The pillows were very thin.... more

I was recomended this by a family member who had heard good things, but this was based on events (wedding). I left a 5 star hotel to go here and asked on the phone for the best room - money no option. I was told the room offered was one of the best they have. It fell way short of... more

I am concerned about the validity of some of the comments received as we entertain 1000s of regular customers every year and all of them come back (perhaprs I ought to ask them to enter a review... . We do have some issues with the "old building" as some parts are as old as 1324AD, however this gentleman allegely had...

Stayed in this hotel recently for 1 night (Saturday) as I was attending a wedding. The hotel did a great job as far as the wedding was concerned. Check in was good but my dissappointment hit when I reached my room. This hotel seems to be having an identity crisis. From the outside the hotel looks gorgeous, old, full or... more

I had previously stayed at the Lister Arms and the Sun Inn in Hitchin. I found the Priory an infinite improvement. The main building is old and attractive, with pleasant grounds and easy parking. The centre of Hitchin is a short stroll away. I phoned a couple of days before and booked 2 single rooms for £60 (it could have... more

Since my last visit, the price has gone up and the service gone down. At a supposed discount on the full whack of £99 per night, my £70 bed and breakfast should have left me with a feeling that I'd had good value. - Not so ! I got a room in the main building (room 12) which had a... more
