Not quite the ecolodge we were expecting – it is close to a major road, the chlorinated pool, limited hiking options – but the view of the river and narrow, primal, lush emerald valley make this an ideal alternative to busy Tarapoto, which is about 40 minutes away. While we were there, one of the three buildings with rooms –... More

I have spent many nights at Pumarinri and it is a wonderful place. I cannot understand th1world saying they did not see any wildlife. They could not have looked around them. During the days there is plenty of birds, Pumarinri is a hotspot for frogs, plenty butterflies, skinks and even found a sloth in the trees around the lodge. At... More

(See also my review of sister properties under Hotel Rio Shilcayo, Tarapoto). I stayed at the three lodges (Rio Shilcayo, Pumarinri and Gocta Lodge) as part of a birding trip to North Peru in June 2012. We spent 5 days at Pumarinri. It has a great quiet setting away from human noise. The restaurant served good food, and the lodge... More

We did not see any wildlife. There was construction going on all day every day and the noise was not relaxing. Not very organized excursions, not very good communication. For example, the guide said we are going for a boat ride and then a small walk. Did not explain that small walk required full on hiking boots. There was no... More

You have to love this place, the bungalows, their food, the river and the pool, but on top of everything the place and the nature sorrounding it. You are in the middle of the jungle can see a lot of wildlife and flora. A must stay place!

the first question you need to ask yourself is if you want to stay in a rustic lodge. I say that because my wife and her sister decided to stay one night at the Pumarinri while we were staying at their sister property in Tarapoto. Within 10 minutes of arriving they wanted to leave. I could have stayed the night... More
