We stayed at the Hermitage for three nights, to conincide with getting married at the church of the Good Shepherd at Lake Tekapo. We stayed in the Chalets, as did a number of our other guests. The chalets themselves are fairly basic, but have everything in them that you need. What we did notice, was that they were cold, even... more

Our welcome was very warm upon arrival. The check-in agent was very competent and truly personable. A few disappointments, though: Upon check-in, after a long drive, was to eat in the pub, with food balanced on our knees (no tables!). We decided to wait for a table in the dining room, which was "apparently full." Once we were seated, it... more

The unit was nice, and we loved the peace and quiet. Price wise, not great value for money, as costs a lot more than other hotels close to Mt Cook area. Could not find the chalets as signs were inadequte. Loved the marshmallows at fireplace in hotel! more

Gorgeous views weather permitting of mount cook. close to trails for tramping Expensive room rates. $205 NZD. Room was dates, mattress old, painting chipping and rotted on patio/balcony. Hotel needs a major make-over if they are charging high prices for rooms. Food is severely over-priced, and gouges tourists with excessive fees for mediocre food, museum fees, star fees, Perhaps stay... more

Dear contrabassoon, Thank you for taking the time to offer your review after your recent visit to Mt Cook. I certainly was dissapointed to hear that you were not satisfied with your experience. However, we have undergone an upgrade process in our Premium and superior rooms and are now beginning to do the same throughout the standard rooms, Chalets and...

Our stay in Mount Cook (Aoraki) was no less than magnificent. It was tipping down for the first afternoon and evening with ferocious gusts of wind, a spectacular storm. So we did the movies that day. There is a planetarium in the Hermitage hotel which is hypnotic. 3D magic starts with a 3D animation of the Maori legend of how... more

We had very high expectations coming to the Hermitage and were extremely disappointed. While the setting is absolutely stunning, the chalet we had initially reserved had totally worn out interior and especially the beds. We upgraded to a standard room where again one of the beds badly needed a new matress, bathroom appliances are outdated and for a normal size... more

Dear grisou77, Thank you for taking the time to offer your feedback regarding your recent stay with us. I was dissapointed to read that you were not impressed with the chalets and standard rooms. Although these rooms are provided for the budget conscious guest, we do try to maintain them to a high standard. We are in the process of...

The location and setting of the hotel are absolutely perfect. We originally had booked a motel unit, but after seeing it decided to upgrade to a hotel room with view and balcony. The motel units were much farther away from the hotel than we had envisioned, were very basic, and had no view. The upgraded hotel room had a spectacular... more

Booked as an overnight stop, albeit miles out of our way, but with hindsight, wouldn't have missed it. Stayed in the hotel on the 6th floor with a commanding view over the mountains with Mt Cook taking centre stage. We had a good view of the mountain most of the time to the Village but on arrival, low cloud took... more

What can I say my Wife and I arrived a day earlier than planned after leaving a freezing cold and wet Dundedin. We arrived at Mount Cook to a beautiful warm spring day - the sun was shining and the snow capped Mt Cook was surperb. We had booked into the Chalet which had the most amazing view of Mt... more

location, location, location & monopoly. We've stayed at some grand hotels, and this isn't one, although they'd like you to think so. It is a lovely location and the rooms are fine. We stayed at the Chalets and they were clean and comfortable. But not worth $225 by any measurement. This included the continental breakfast -for hot food it's another... more

Dear Twar, Thank you for taking the time to review The Hermitage Hotel. I am glad you enjoyed the location and rooms here. The Chalets are actually our most popular accommodation and the rate does include a continental breakfast, the price to upgrade to a fully cooked buffet breakfast is $10 per person. We feel that the quality of the...
