Our treatment was more like friends than paying guests. The ambiance is superb the room and bathroom in the old inn was outstanding. The breakfast is one of the best and the porridge is as good as gleneagles.Staff wise from the lady on reception to the restuarant they are all very nice people doing a fine job.Eric the man in charge... more

I visited this hotel last week. I phoned the night before and requested a booking and rates and the best offer was a 2 night romantic stay, to include BBD plus flowers & chocs at £450 total. I booked as this was a direct link from Chatsworth and described as Luxury. We arrived at 5pm and shown our room, a... more

A beautiful hotel in a great location and with fantastic views from the rooms but definitely overpriced for the size and quality of the rooms and with breakfast extra. Restaurant is good value for dinner however. Main problem, and what makes it hard to recommend this hotel, is the attitude of the staff, varying form queasy obsequiousness to arrogant and... more

Stayed for two nights after going to Paris and found the hotel very beautiful, staff and owner were the most accommodating and friendly people we met on our travels. With no knowledge of the area they were very informative and helpful. We arrived late afternoon and walked through to the deer park and on the walk back as the sun... more

The room was not the largest you will get but the view was phenomenal, the bed was very comfortable and so peaceful we slept with the window open and not a sound all night I will certainly go back even if it is not the cheapest hotel in the area you are made to feel very welcome and the staff... more

Very good hotel BUT very expensive. They wouldn't let us into our room on arrival until 2.30pm even though they knew we were going to a wedding at 3.30pm. Their attitude is that we, the guests, should be grateful that they are allowing us to stay. Rooms excellent but VERY expensive for what they are. Staff reasonably pleasant but generally... more

Cavendish Hotel is in a great location for visiting Chatsworth House and for nearby villages such as Bakewell. The carpark is free and the rooms are nicely decorated in good, old fashioned style. I found the people on reception (and I encountered 3 during my stay) quite stand-offish and one of them - who continued a phone conversation whilst I... more

Wonderful old stone hotel in a charming, pretty village. It's on the Chatsworth House estate and Lady Devonshire from Chatsworth House had a say in the decoration, so as you can imagine it is fabulous. Heavy blanket-lined silk curtains, thick soft carpets, every item co-ordinated within the room. Sumptuous bed linen and towels, very comfortable bed, the best quality toiliteries... more

I stayed in a superior room for one night for 190 GBP which included a delicious two-course dinner, breakfast, and VAT. I was greeted at the door, and the staff was very friendly and helpful throughout my stay. The proprietor, Eric Marsh, a delightful gentleman, met with me both at dinner and breakfast. The food was delicious and much of... more

We stayed here for one night on our way to another destination. We booked a superior room which was just that, splendid views over the Chatsworth estate and very luxurious. We enjoyed an evening meal in the Garden room and an excellent breakfast the next day. The rooms are on the ground or first floor but the hotel doesn't have... more
