Stayed for 1 night and from the moment we walked through the doors we felt at home. Unfortunately the room we normally have in the main house was not available so we had a garden room. It was large and comfortable but not the standard of the main house. Mostly I didn't like the way you walk straight from the outside onto the bedroom carpet. Because of this it didn't feel that clean and make you want to walk around in bare feet or socks. The bathroom was a bit dark as didn't have a window to the outside and the fan ran on so long it was a problem with the noise. Having said this, we love the hospitality here and are regular customers. The food is always spot on as is the service. And the hotel is great at any time of the year. We will be back.

Somewhat disappointed with our Birthday lunch. I'll keep it shortish ! We live locally and for our joint birthday we chose Fischer's. Our main course was enjoyable but with very little vegetable content considering they have their own vegetable garden. We requested more bread after consuming 2 small slices and the response was that will be £4.50 per head !....An apology and explanation was given .We have dined all over the World including a few Michelin star restaurants and never have we been charged for bread.Probably by way of an apology we were not charged for the Prosecco.

Greetings Fleur Devine, We are delighted that you chose us to celebrate your special occasion. However, we do sincerely apologise that you left feeling somewhat disappointed. I assure you, Head Chef Adam and his team work tirelessly, to ensure wherever possible, our home grown vegetables , herbs and greens are used at each stage of our menus on offer. This is something that we are very proud of, and have received national recognition for. As I hope you can appreciate, produce available can be limited to specific seasons, however we do have an exciting Grow Plan in place this year, to be able to continue to deliver home grown ingredients at many stages of the cooking process. As well as also investing in our Green House further this year to ensure we can grow all year round, in all seasons. In regards to the bread, of course, the first round of bread we offer is always complimentary. Any additional serving is £2.50 per person. We feel this is price is fair, as we have recently introduced a new bread offering, of a lovely Brioche Roll, with Toasted Almonds and Golden Syrup. All of which is baked fresh in house daily, with a lot passion, time and diligence. My colleague did notice your discontent with this, and indeed offered the Prosecco complimentary as a gesture of good will, as we never want our Guests to leave un-happy. All in all, thank you for sharing feedback on your recent experience with us. We certainly take it all on board, and will always look to change things if we feel it is required. Myself, and the team certainly appreciate your continued loyalty to Fischer's and we do hope there is another opportunity to welcome you back some point soon. Best regards, Tim, Hotel Manager

An exquisite fine dining and impeccable service, that makes you feel very welcomed. Highlights for me were the starter and the deserts. Beautiful building, interiors and gardens. Thank you Fisher’s Hall team! I would love to visit you again.

Superb stay after visiting Chatsworth. From the moment we arrived to when we left the staff couldn't have been more friendly and helpful. In daylight, the setting of the hotel is beautiful, set in lovely gardens. We had a cosy room and it is fine, the bathroom is modern with an overbath shower, lovely towels. The lounge is lovely with lots of seating.

We have just returned from an overnight stay at Fischers where we celebrated my sister’s 70th birthday. Everything was spectacularly good! The elegant property stands in beautiful grounds on the edge of Baslow, one of Derbyshire’s most attractive villages. We occupied 2 rooms - a junior suite in the main house and a Garden Room in an adjoining building. They had very differing styles but both were spacious, attractively furnished and decorated and with all the extras one would expect in this quality of hotel. The beds and bedding were luxurious. The staff were, without exception, friendly, helpful and professional. The main attraction of the hotel, however, has to be the food which is of exceptional quality. Our package included the Classic a la carte dinner which included a variety of nibbles, a starter, a 2nd course, a 3rd course, an optional cheese course and dessert. The menu is imaginative and offers ample choice - I would say that the food deserves a Michelin star. The only slightly disappointing element was the dessert which was not executed with the same finesse as the other courses . 3 of us had the pineapple tarte tatin which was over-caramelised and made the pastry rock hard! Overall ,though, our dining experience was fabulous. Breakfast was equally good.

Stayed a year ago and Baslow hall exceeded my expectations. Just returned from my second stay and whilst the hotel was still very good I was disappointed to have a “discretionary “ service charge added to my bill without this being visible until I had paid . The charge added £35 to my invoice - not a huge percentage but discretionary means that I decide if I want to pay it rather than having it imposed. Couple of other nice touches from last year now removed - uht rather than fresh milk in bedrooms and no complementary chocolate treats on departure.

Hello there Paula, thank you for your recent stay with us, and sharing the feedback on your experience. We appreciate your comments on the service charge on your bill, we do however feel that this has become more and more an industry norm over recent years. The service charge that was added is indeed discretionary, and I apologise if you feel this was imposed. Our team would always remove it without hesitation if queried. We do endeavour to communicate this always during check out. I shall certainly look if that communication can be improved in any way. We have been using UHT milk recently, as we look at new ways of ensuring fresh milk to the rooms. Apologies that during your stay you didn't receive any this time around. I assure you we are still offering the complementary chocolates on departure, this isn't something we have stopped. Again, I apologise that this was evidently missed. Overall we are delighted to read you had such a good experience on your first visit, and came back for a second time. We do really appreciate your repeat visits, I certainly hope there is another opportunity to welcome you back again. If you do ever plan to return, I would love for you to reach me directly at tim@fischers-baslowhall.co.uk so I can ensure your experience is as special as the first time. Best regards, Tim Brown, Hotel Manager

We attended the ‘foraging and lunch’ experience at Fischers, Baslow Hall and would not recommend. Start time of 9am was rather thoughtless as hit the rush hour traffic. Started with too strong coffee served without enough milk or a smile; no ‘homemade biscuits’ as advertised. The ‘foraging’ started with a 10 minute walk along a very busy road with large lorries passing within inches of you. It was then a climb up to a wood which was picturesque but many members of the group struggled. It also included a walk along a muddy path by a very steep bank with dog walkers scrambling past and climbing over a fallen wall (where the guide was nowhere to be seen by those struggling). The guide took no notice of the majority of the group (far too large at 20 people) and spent her time taking photos of various mushrooms - many couldn’t hear anything she said and I came away with no knowledge that could be applied. We were also promised a foraging-based food treat while out but nothing was forthcoming. We have been to Fischers many times before and the lunch was by far the worst food we have had. The wonderful breads from the past were replaced with a half piece of burnt loaf; the mushroom starter tasteless; the pork fatty and not well cooked and the sauces unbalanced. Staff could not answer queries about the menu and there was no choice. All-in-all a very disappointing day for an expensive experience that we had been really looking forward to. Sadly we won’t ever be returning.

Hello there Tourist54723657708, thank you for sharing the review on your recent Foraging experience with us. Our Foraging events are typically met with very positive feedback . So I am saddened to read the day didn't meet your expectations. Our Foraging experience is a very popular event, and we feel a full day experience, 3 course meal and a glass of wine does offer great value for money. We are always striving to improve in everything we do, so I shall review your comments with our teams, and see where we can do better next time. Overall we are sorry to read that you feel you wouldn't return, but if this does change at all please do reach me directly at tim@fischers-baslowhall.co.uk, and I would love to personally deal with any future queries/reservations. Best regards, Tim Brown

Where do I start? Just amazing from start to finish.... We have stayed and eaten at Fischers many times before but as this stay was to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary we decided to treat ourselves to the chef's table dining experience and a four night stay. We were especially excited as this would be our first meal with the new acclaimed chef Adam Thackeray. We had a beautiful luxurious garden room for our stay and walked miles during the days, with Chatsworth Estate on the doorstep and ate out around Baslow for the first three nights. We saved the chef's table until our last night which was a busy Saturday night service. We pulled our high seats up to the dining bar and Adam introduced the whole team to us, explaining the role of each member and the station they were assigned to. We were made to feel relaxed and at ease straight away and to be honest totally mesmerised by all that was taking place in front of us. Everyone was so welcoming and happy. We were honoured to have Max Fischer working on his section directly in front of us, and the attention to detail he displayed was a joy to watch. Adam was in total control of the service and his calm, cool and meticulous eye for detail had the whole team working together seamlessly and in such a friendly atmosphere. (Not the Gordon Ramsey Esque scene we had envisioned at all, barely an expletive was heard!) The food was just exquisite from the pre starters to the coffee and petit fours, everything was perfect. Otto's wine recommendations worked beautifully with our food. We could choose four of the courses, which is unusual on a tasting menu. My husband and I choosing a different one of the options each so that we could taste each others food without embarrassment!! Again, a testament to how comfortable we were made to feel. I would wholeheartedly recommend the chef's table to any foodies out there and I promise you will not be disappointed. To top everything off the following morning, after mentioning to Adam that the breakfasts whilst lovely were a little rich for our taste, we were absolutely taken aback to be told by the waitress that Adam had come early especially to prepare our breakfast himself! This is a testament to his dedication and the want to please his diners and we can't thank or praise him and the whole team enough. We can't wait for our next visit in December! *****

I contacted the hotel via their reservation site to thank them for their professionalism & great services during our stay on Saturday 30th September. Though I have not heard from the hotel as yet. I mentioned names,(of those which I knew) & I would have liked to have thanked them personally, but sadly I didn't see any member of staff who were serving us the previous evening...apart from Neil who I saw at a distance in the grounds as we left. Hopefully they were all having a well deserved lay in. We had a little niggle regarding the breakfast, this was discussed with a member of staff & I felt no reason to raise it on TripAdvisor or any other site. The food was outstanding on Saturday evening, my favourite dishes being the Orkney Scallop & the King Blue Mushroom dish. Personally I don't have a sweet tooth, but the pastry served with tea on our arrival was scrumptious. The bed was very comfortable but the pillows were a little too hard for me. Any possibility of a feather pillow next time? Thank you so much & look forward to visiting again in the near future.

Hello there Savvywalker123, We are delighted to read such positive feedback. We did receive your email, I have shared that, as well as your lovely comments on here, with all the team at Fischers. It is great to hear you had positive interactions with many of them, and enjoyed the menu on offer. Thank you ever so much for writing these kind words. We would love to welcome you back to the Hall some point soon! Please mention the preference for a feather pillow on your next visit, and we shall certainly see what we can do to accommodate. Thanks again.

One of the best hotel experiences I had while visiting Scotland. The grounds are amazing! Just absolutely stunning, which includes their own vegetable and fruit garden. The hotel is beyond stunning, just old world charm and luxury. The staff was absolutely top notch and friendly and very accommodating. They were able to get me in to the dining room on short notice and I enjoyed one of the best 5 course meals I think I have ever had. The chef they have deserves a gold medal and a five star review 👏👏👏. The whole visit was incredibly relaxing and again the staff made sure of it. Just an outstanding group of staff members. I just can’t say it enough good things about the staff and the overall experience. I’m going to return for a longer visit just to experience this once again. Absolutely perfect!
