“Hotel OK, staff variable”

For a 3 star the hotel is OK, no problems but nothing outstanding. The location for us was fine as a stopping off point on our way to Cognac. We found "Manuel the waiter" alive and well and living in Pauillac. When ordering drinks he had never heard of Bacardi, even though there was a bottle on the shelf behind... More

“Good home base for the Medoc”

We stayed for 4 nights in September- in the area to run the Marathon du Medoc. Pauillac is a great base to explore the area with plenty of chateau to visit within a stones throw, and the chateau of St Estephe, St. Julian, and Margaux within a very short drive. Not much choice in Pauillac anyway! If you're not ready for the Relais et Chateaux prices of Cordeillan Bages then this is probably the best option. In fact it is the 3 stars section of the Hotel de France et d'Angleterre, same address, same staff, same entrance. Simple room, spacious enough, bed correct, very quiet.
