When you book a twin room you're not staying at the beachfront hostel but another house just up the road, no veranda which sunset views there. No towels provided and no extra's in the room, we thought the 72 NZD was quite expensive for this. Bathroom was allright and kitchen was clean. More

Great hostel overall! The German guy running it is really helpful and nice, the view is fantastic and the kitchen/lounge is nice - could be a bit more spacious though. Clean bathrooms etc. We stayed in our tent behind the house, and I would say it was a bit overpriced for a space on the grass. Apart from that -... More

We arrived in Punakaiki and found a twin room in their second location, just down the street behind the tavern and off the beach. The common facilities were excellent. The kitchen seemed new and the bathrooms were extremely clean. It wasn't on the beach, but we could still hear the waves crashing at high tide. As other posters have mentioned,... More

Very nice experience, excellent location right by the beach. Our double room had a great double bed and was overlooking the ocean. The communal area is quite big with lots of board games and luckily no TV. The bathrooms are clean. Access to wi-fi was $10 for a full day (until the check out on the following day) - much... More

Me and my friend were travelling from Dunedin to Auckland and stayed a night here. This place was magic, rooms ten metres from the beach , friendly manager, and all round friendly people staying there. It was in walking distance to the pub also. Amazing place. More

I stayed here in December 2010. When we arrived the very friendly owner asked us did we want to experience an unusual place to stay, and we said why not. So he showed us to our room - a truck/ camper van type set up with no wheels. It was cute and basic and definitely different, but not great if... More

We stayed here for 2 nights, unfortunatley the weather wasn't too good during our stay, constant rain and storms. Kitchen facilitys were excellent with plenty of space. There was a range of puzzles and board games which kept us entertained during the bad weather, there is however no TV. On the whole, clean, nice comfy sturdy bunk beds, with shelves... More

I was traveling with a friend and didnt have reservations when we got into Punakaiki in the late afternoon. We ended up at this hostel in a 4-bed room. The hostel is nice and clean and overlooks the ocean. We stayed for 1 night to see the Pancake Rocks and Blowholes. Make sure to go there during high tide! I... More

Very lovely, right on the beach, 500 metres' walk from the rocks. Friendly staff, good communal areas, deliberately no TV (this is a good thing!) to encourage interaction, and plenty of board games. Rooms, laundry and wifi (if you want it you have to pay $10 for the day even if you only need it for a few minutes) are... More
