We stayed at African Zoo on the last night of a 1 week backpacking trip around The Gambia. Its hot water was very welcome after a week of cold showers elsewhere. In the room (we went for the back one which was further away from the busy road) there was no mosquito net and the netting on the windows had holes in and the window would not shut properly so we had to keep the air con on all night to keep the mossies away. The bed was clean and reasonably comfortable (it was a sprung mattress which we had come to think of as a rarity in The Gambia). The carpet was very thin and the room was lit by a single naked bulb and the paint ws peeling from the walls so it wasn't exactly cosy. The water heater in the bathroom leaked and had left rusty marks all over the bath. We (actually my boyfriend) encountered a cockroach in the bathroom but the bathroom seemed clean otherwise.
