Driving through the dark, we decided to call it a night in Osterode. Our sat nav came up with this hotel. Our initial expectations were not good, as the town seemed small and dead, and the hotel door was locked. However somebody responded to the night doorbell, and, although initially appearing to be suspicious of me standing on the doorstep, the proprietor proved to be welcoming and helpful, despite the fact that I had probably woken her up. The cost was 89 euros I think. The room was fine. Not huge, but not too small. The bathroom was a bit 1970's (dark red tiles), with only a shower (no bathtub), but perfectly adequate. Breakfast was the typical buffet, and was also perfectly adequate. All in all, an accommodating welcome in the middle of the night, and a perfectly adequate place to stop. We would not hesitate to return if we were in the area again. more
