My husband and I revisited the Hotel Sant Joan this summer, this time with our two-year-old in tow, and it was every bit as lovely as we remembered it being. The staff are incredibly friendly; the food is delicious; and the garden is heavenly to relax in. Our bedroom was spotlessly clean, and had everything we needed. We'll certainly visit again!

As soon as we got to the top of the steps we were taken in by this wonderful hotel, the lovely garden and pool, the staff and restaurant were excellent. Lovely breakfast. And a nice stroll into town to the bars. We will return as we love Gerona province and palamos.

We have just returned from a 12 night stay at this hotel and can honestly say it was sad to leave. From start to end we had the full attention of our hosts and their wonderful staff, it was like staying with friends rather than visiting a hotel. Merche and Pepe and their lovely family were an absolute pleasure to know, nothing was too much trouble, in fact it was more like a relaxing retreat for me, they knew what you needed before you knew it yourself xx Absolutely loved it and will hope to visit again x Thank you so much x

First stayed here many years ago when Pedro father of Merche the current owner was in charge. He set high standard and these are still well in place. The hotel has enjoyed some tasteful renovation but still retains the charm of the past Our room was well furbished with comfortable bed and smart decor and all facilities wifi etc worked well Garden pool and hot tub add to the relaxing attitude as do the staff who are really helpful and attentive to answer our questions look forward to returning again but this time plan a longer stay

My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this lovely hotel, which is relaxed and quiet and has a lot of character. The first thing to mention is the friendliness of Merche, Pepe and their staff, despite only Merche speaking English and us not speaking very much Spanish beyond the usual tourist Spanglish. As some reviewers have noted there are certain quirks to staying here such as leaving your key with reception when you go out (meaning that leaving electrical items to charge is not possible) and having allocated tables at breakfast but this didn't affect our stay at all, and in fact in my opinion you will have to go a long way to find a friendlier hotel owner in the rest of Spain. Our room (102) was very spacious, with a separate area with a two seater sofa and plenty of wardrobe space, hangers etc. I can also say that the bed is one of the most comfortable I have slept in on holiday. There was always fresh bread, croissants, cereal, fruit, meat and cheese at the buffet breakfast together with a small amount of bacon, eggs etc, but the best thing about breakfast is that it is served until midday making for a very relaxed morning. The free parking is tight, especially if you have a bigger car and the hotel is full and gets full quickly. The owners have a separate garage 50 meters from the hotel for about 5 cars but there is a daily charge of 8 euros for this. Alternative parking might be a problem if both were full but I'm confident that the owners would find a solution. The hotel was easy to find when driving from Girona (about 40 mins) and its out of town location worked for us but might not for others. It is in a residential area about 15 mins easy walk into Palamos or 15 mins walk to a lovely beach at La Fosca in the opposite direction. There are no nice bars or restaurants close to the hotel but the hotel serves basic meals (burgers etc). We particularly enjoyed sitting in the garden during the evening with a nice bottle of Rioja from the hotel bar before we headed out, or sometimes for a cheeky nightcap when we got back from our meal. I would definitely stay here again when visiting this part of Spain.

The location is ok but a bit far from the beach and restaurants. They have private parking though which is great. The hotel looks nice, the rooms are ok but very standard, nothing special. We had ants in the room and even in the bed, the showers by the pool did not work. The staff were friendly and helpful, the breakfast limited but ok. Average hotel.

Great price but not very accommodating service. You have to give up your card key when you leave which means you can't charge your phone or computer. There was only one outlet in the room so I hope you have a multi socket connector if you have more than one device to charge. Breakfast tables are pre assigned and you can't change, even if you ask nicely, so we couldn't sit by the window even though there were tables free. They have a very narrow idea client service. The rooms were clean and bed was comfortable.

Response from MdeLu, Propietario at Hotel Sant Joan
Responded 4 Oct 2015
First of all, we want to thank all our guests you for their time and for letting us know their feelings and feedback about our Hotel. Now, we would like to comment on this one in particular. We would like to point out that, for breakfast, we normally assign tables to the rooms. So, in case a lot of rooms come at the same time, they all have their own. Also, everybody knows which table they have for the rest of their stay. When this guest came into the restaurant, the tables by the window (only three) were taken by the guests who had come ONE day before them , so it would not have been very polite to deprive them of their tables (some of them had not had breakfast yet). If any of them had already been available, obviously, we would have given to them. We tried to explain this “nicely” to the guest but she turned round and walked away leaving us in the middle of the explanation. About the keys, if the keys/cards are to disconnect the power supply when guests are not in the room, which I think it is common practice in lots of hotels nowadays , is to avoid leaving lights, air conditioning… on. Normally guests charge their devices while being in the room and when they ask for an extra one, we give it to them. The room these guests were in has got 4 sockets/outlets + 5 which are used (lamps, fridge…). This makes NINE altogether and not one. It’s known that, when we are disappointed or angry, we may see reality from another point of view and our perception changes. However, we all should think twice before writing things which are not true. So in conclusion, I don’t know if it is the hotel that has narrow-minded rules or that there are narrow-minded guests that don’t care about the rules or, even the other guests.

We stayed here for a week and from the minute we arrived we were greeted with a friendly smile from the owner and this warm welcome was the theme for the rest of our stay. The room was spotless and comfortable with plenty of hot water available at all hours. The grounds are well kept and kept clean by the staff. The breakfast is wonderful with a selection of cold meats, fruit, cereal and a hot selection also. There is coffee and a vast selection of teas. This is buffet self service from 8:30 to12:00 and no matter when you choose to eat there is always a full choice. Can't wait to go back.

We have just returned from a week in this hotel. It was our second visit and the owner remembered us and put us back in the same room. The rooms are air conditioned.....essential in the heat and are spacious with TV, sofa and a safe. The bathroom has a full size bath. I think that there are upgrade rooms but I am not sure why you would need one. Breakfasts are buffet style with a selection of a few hot dishes and then many fruits, meats, cereals, pastries, cheeses and an excellent nesprseeo coffee machine. Breakfast is served until mid-day! We love the location as it is a 15 minute walk to a lovely beach and in the evening it is a similar walk to Palamos sea front. There are lots of restaurants in Palamos and places to shop, have coffee or an ice-cream. The hotel grounds are pretty and well-presented with a hot tub and a small pool in which to cool off after a hot day on the beach. Plenty of seats, loungers and swing seats to sit in and relax. We just love this place. Although we are a couple with grown up children there were children in the hotel who were obviously welcome judging by the high chairs in the restaurant. There are no evening meals but there is a nice bar where coffee and drinks are available throughout the day.
