Our first time at Niriides. Room was very basic and seemed quite dated. Pool itself was good but surrounded by a large very low-maintenance paved area which felt a bit harsh. Location is just out of town centre at the top of the sloping main street - we were aware of this as we have been to Skala many times. It didn't cause us any problems but elderly or infirm customers may wish to bear it in mind. Management attendance seemed quite low-key, as if running the business was a part-time job. We have been taking our holidays in Skala for many years and there was nothing really awful about our stay but it was the least enjoyable we have had here. Fortunately our familiar haunts were within easy walking distance.

I have been to Nirides in August 2018 and19. You get what you pay for here, it is very basic but the pool area is safe and not crowded unlike a lot of the larger aparment blocks. The people who run it do their best, unfortunately it has been up for sale a long time and they can only do whatthey are allowed. We have had one large room for mum, grandma and two children, which was large enough, Yes you do have problems with wet room showers / curtains but nothing different to a lot of greek places. We managed to make salds/pasta etc. at lunch time and our own breakfasts. All in all a simple holiday, lots of exercise up and down the hill, not good if you cannot walk.

Stayed here last year with my husband and our 11 and 12 yr old kids and I cannot recommend this place at all. I know everyone reads the odd bad review but really, i was quite disappointed. I agree with another reviewer's comment that the rooms are "dated and rather shabby." Most family's have one big hol a year and this place did not hit the mark by any means. It was within our budget and we didn't mind the 10 min walk down to the town or beach, i thought that all we'd need would be basic accommodation as it'd be so hot that we'd be out and about most of the time (beach / pool etc) which we were, yet to come back to that standard of apartment was a big let down. The room was big enough for 4 and had a dining table with chairs. Beds were comfy enough but the night we arrived it was actually quite chilly and the bed covers were inadequate for all of us. However, the staff obliged and provided more blankets the next day. The shower was a joke, the water would hit the shower curtain behind you and pour down onto the bathroom floor and after a 10min shower the result was that you'd step out on a cold, wet, slippery bathroom floor. We had to use towels to mop up the excess water then the owner asked me not to use towels for that, so i explained that the water just sprays everywhere because the cubicle is inadequate and 1 bath mat wouldn't soak it up. There was nothing they could do, it was just an extremely basic bathroom. We'd planned to self cater for a meal or 2 but don't bother, the "kitchenette" is useless - it was a 2 hob electric stove that you have to lift out of a cupboard, that's it! Plus the supermarkets within walking distance aren't up to much. We are every meal out which was nice but not what we'd budgeted for. Our room was down the steps from the pool area and had a shaded terrace. The pool was ok, other than very cold, kids were disappointed that no inflatables were allowed. It was May when we stayed there and there is a bar but it had no buzz or atmosphere to it. I know this sounds all very miserable but that's how we found it! I'd never go back.…

We decided to try the Skala resort after visiting Kefalonia in 2018 and falling in love with the beautiful island. We chose Hotel Niriides as it was in our price range and looked ok with some good and bad reviews but everyone has an opinion. We had room 307, steps up to the right of reception and overlooking the pool so on first impression we were all very happy, nice big room, and the beds were so much better than last year! The facilities are basic as you would expect in Greece but definitely adequate. The main issue we had was with the air conditioning. Basically it didn't work! We stuck it out for a few nights but it just didn't get down to temperature. After a week i complained to the lady in the bar and she said she would get somebody to have a look. A guy arrived and supposedly fixed it but it was no better. I told the owner that it still wasn't great and she got the "engineer" back. He had another go at it but it just didn't get down to the temperature that we were asking it to. So nights were warm, not what you want when you're paying extra for a service. The only way to get around this was to detach the key from the power fob so that you could leave the a/c on while you were out (but obviously i would never condone such behaviour)! The pool area was really nice with plenty of space to find sun or shade depending on what you want. I wanted shade so on the first few days sat around the far end of the pool. The only problem with this was the insect bites! So in the end i was sitting around the bar area as it seemed the only place where you wouldn't get bitten! The menu at the bar i thought was very limited. I don't want to come across as a classic Brit abroad as i'm far from that but they didn't even have chips on the menu! The place we stayed last year at Trapezaki Beach had a tiny booth to prepare food and Harry the owner was on his own but he offered so much more (including chips)! ((He used to make chicken or pork souvlaki in a pitta bread with tzatziki and fries, AMAZING)) I heard rumours while we were there that the place was up for sale. That was exactly how it felt, like the mother and daughter who ran it had kind of given up. The Skala area however was lovely, with loads of choice as to where to eat every night, we didn't have a bad meal the whole 2 weeks! The walk home after a night out was tiring but wasn't a problem but i wouldn't recommend for anyone with mobility issues! So on a whole i wouldn't recommend the hotel as it stands, it has potential but needs a lift. If the a/c had worked and the bar menu had been a bit more extensive it might have made a difference.…

In need of tlc. Rooms are dated and rather shabby. You can hear the plumbing roar every time someone in the block goes to the loo or runs a tap. Pool is OK but beds are worn and tatty. Not a particularly inviting prospect. I don't feel this place justifies what jet2 charge for it.

Myself and my husband stayed here for a weeks break to relax and unwind. After quite a long transfer from the airport we were greeted by one of the owners of the hotel. She didn’t speak very much English but we got round the language barrier without too much trouble. Be aware that you are expected to pay the tourist tax as soon as you check in. She then took us to our room. This was our biggest disappointment of the hotel! The room was very basic, dark and depressing. The bathroom was falling apart, dirty and had no window or any form of extractor fan, the only way to get fresh air in there was by leaving the door open into the main room, you can imagine that wasn’t possible all of the time! We were ground level and the balcony was next to an orchard and again was a depressing area to sit in. We took a deep breath and decided to make the best of what we had. The pool area was the best part of hotel, plenty of space and a relaxing atmosphere, the hotel seemed pretty quiet and we always managed to find somewhere to sunbathe at any time of day. The only gripe here was a sign that said you couldn’t take your own food or drink down to the pool. You were expected to buy from the bar, which would be fine if the prices were reasonable, but at about €3 for a small bottle of coke, it was quite expensive. I can’t comment on the food as we ate in town. Towards the end of the week we went to the beach rather than staying by the pool as the breeze there made the heat a bit more bareable and there were some nice places to go for lunch. It’s about a 15 minute walk down into town, but a good 20 minutes uphill back again. If you have walking difficulties then I wouldn’t really recommend this hotel unless you plan to use taxis to get back all of the time. They cost around €5 and the main taxi rank is at the bottom of the town by the beach. Skala is a lovely, relaxing resort with plenty of restaurants and bars, our favourite restaurant was Mikelatos on the main street, it’s slightly more expensive than some of the others but the food and staff were both excellent, the owner and his son always taking the time to speak to their customers. We always enjoyed a relaxing evening drinks overlooking the sea at Akri seaside cafe bar. For a bit more of an atmosphere we had a great time in Captains bar. After a walk during the day we stopped at a lovely place along the sea front heading out of town called Ammos, again the staff make you feel very welcome and always take the time to talk. When it was time for us to leave we had a morning pick up, as we left our apartment the cleaner was waiting outside to take our keys. There was no check out procedure, you just go to the reception area and wait for your transfer. I was disappointed that no representative of the hotel was there to say goodbye, just the cleaner wanting the key! All the other hotels we picked up from on the way back had hotel owners/staff outside saying goodbye and waving them off. All in all we had a lovely holiday in Skala and we made the most of the situation regarding the room, but I really wouldn’t recommend the hotel and I definitely wouldn’t stay there again. …

Hotel was in a quiet spot, just outside the resort Skala, the climb upto the hotel was strenuous,&I am a fit person. The pool was nice & clean, a decent size fit the hotel. Rooms were basic, you would struggle to cook a meal for a family as there was only a 2 ring hot plate & microwave but not enough crockery to cater for more than 2 people. The beds were comfortable, we never used the 3rd bed as it was a foldable type. Bathroom was lacking, the shower was very small with the awful curtain that clings to your legs, although it was not very efficient, it let more water out than kept in, the shower head kept up right a few times... The toilet was vicious when flushed, to the point it overflowed when flushed onto the bathroom floor! We had 1 bedroom and a living area, we asked for air-conditioning just for the bedroom but was informed we had to rent both aircon units, at a cost of,,€10per night, so an extra €70s for the week! The units fans were facing each other on the balcony and the amount of heat they throw out was tremendous, so unable to sit on balcony whilst waiting for partner to get ready with the air con on.. It was self catering, but there was no wash up liquid or tea towel as some places provide as curtesy and no soap in the bathroom. We enjoyed Skala & would definitely return but not to this hotel, find some where more closer to the centre and not expensive air con charges. …

Our second time here so we knew what to expect. Standard Greece low star no frills hotel. Clean nothing amazing but nothing bad either. My only gripe was having to pay for aircon at 10 o’clock at night as soon as we arrived as it was extra and the room was 40c. Not all that impressed at 10 euros at day. The location is good, the pool decent enough and I’d advise using the apartments next door too as they have a nice pool area for kids. The nirides kids pool is actually more of a jacuzzi type seating area. Skala is a pretty good little town with plenty of tavernas, shops and a decent beach. The rooms themselves are fairly typical, heavy pine furniture, not enough cutlery, all the usual things you’d play bingo with on a cheap Greek holiday. Very low mozzie count though both times we’ve been there in both may and July so that was a bonus …

Just returned from a weeks stay with my husband, 5 year old and 5 month old. Basic but clean apartments. We had a 1 bed apartment on the top floor. Room 204, nice view of the pool from the balcony. Room was spacious. No microwave which was an issue as we had to sterilise bottles for our baby, luckily we found a bar in the town who let us use there microwave. We did request a ground floor apartment as we had the baby and her pram, it was slightly inconvenient carrying a pram down 5 sets of stairs to get to the pool. Owners where nice, Vicky the older lady always had a smile on her face. Pool area was lovely and clean, nice clientele in the hotel, very relaxed. Paid 70 euro for the air con which was expensive but worth it with 2 kids. Bins in rooms emptied daily, cleaned often with new towels and beds changed. I’d suggest the owners buy some new pillows, the ones in the rooms are awful! I wouldn’t recommend these apartments if your in a wheelchair or struggle with stairs/walking. It’s on the top of a hill which can be strenuous depending on your fitness level. We enjoyed our stay and I would recommend this apartment but would probably try somewhere different if we visited Skala again. …

We have stayed at the Nirithes a number of times over the years and it never disappoints, we had a beautifully clean apartment with a fabulous view from the balcony, the rooms are well equipped for this standard of establishment. We were given such a lovely welcome from the lovely ladies Corrina and Vicky who look after the guests so well and will go out of their way to help. There were lots of families this year as went a little later who really enjoyed the beautiful pool area, everyone was enjoying themselves. The bar is open in the evenings until around 11 if you want a drink after the walk back up the hill but early enough that guests are not disturbed which suited us very well. Sheets and towels changed regularly, and there is a snack menu at the bar. There are some lovely tavernas and bars a few minutes walk down the hill. I would be happy to recommend Nirithes for both families and couples just be aware if you have mobility issues there are many steps inside and a steep hill back from the village due to the location however taxis are readily available for around 5 € …
