The Hotel Hecht is located directly across the road from a Beer Garden and Church. The beer garden was open until 2am with loud patrons wandering the streets until 3am. The church bells toll every 30 minutes. Since the rooms are not air conditioned, you are forced to sleep with the windows open and endure the constant noise. The rooms are very basic but clean and modern. The bathrooms are slightly outdated and need refurbishing. The best part of our stay was the breakfast. Both the food and service were exceptional. The disappointing stay really ruined our visit to Appenzell. Unfortunately we were unable to stay anywhere else in town as this was the last available room. We highly recommend booking in advance to the Hotel Appenzell or the Romantik Hotel if you wish to visit this quaint Switzerland town. more
