After getting off the special train from St. Galen, I wandered around checking out hotels, and chose the Lowen over the 4-5 others that have reviews here.

I asked for a room with a view, and the friendly family that run it showed me a spacious one that exuded old-fashion character and charm. It was old, and very stylish. Basically wood decor, painted dark blue, with the family seal painted in various places. It had a small separated sitting area, giving it the feel of a small suite. The tiled bathroom was large and clean. The breakfast was good.

Although in the center of this small, medieval city, on the quiet street running down from the train station (about 5 minutes), the picture window still had a lovely view of the surrounding hills.
The more popular and expensive hotels, which were about 5 minutes further, were on the main roads coming into the city, and seemed like they would be much noisier.
