I have to say that our overall experience at the Castello was a good one and I would definitely recommend this place! Driving up to the Castello, I felt like a I was in my own little farytale. The castle is beautiful and since there were not many people staying here while we were there, it felt like our own... more

When I read the review ratings on TA for Castello di Ripa d’Orcia, it makes me question if people are talking about the same place. It appears that they are. Apparently this is one of those places that you either love or hate. Most seem to agree that the property and setting are beautiful, but some complain (strongly) about the... more

My wife, in laws and I are currently travelling through Europe and particularly wanted to stay at the Castello di Ripa d'Orcia en-route. We booked to stay at the Castello for four nights but ended only staying one (checked out this morning) after the owner (I believe his name is Mario) accused us of being the worst guests he'd encountered... more

These gentlemen were politely invited to find another place more suitable to them after one night stay and without any charges despite their booking of three rooms for 4 nights given the fact that : 1) When the staff entered the room for the daily cleaning a messy situation was found so that the staff wasn’t able to accomplish her...

Simply amazing! Still talk about how great it was 2 years after we stayed there. Most definitely the highlight of our week long trip to Italy. I loved everything about it. I thought the Food was terrific and felt like I was eating like an Italian and not being served food produced for the tourist. If you want a hotel... more

If you read back through the various reviews of this 'hotel' you will see many negative comments - all of which to my experience are still true. Let's get the positives out of the way - this is a lovely medieval castle in a very remote and picturesque setting with peaceful views all around. It's setting while being a positive... more

The posted reviews cover it quite well. This is a very special place, but not for everyone. For ourselves, though, it was the highlight of our trip to Tuscany. It is in an isolated location and is surrounded by magnificent scenery. The opportunity to stay in an ancient castle was a great treat. The rooms were spacious and very comfortable,... more

We stayed several nights in the middle of May, and wish we had more time. Certainly a place we will return to. Our room was wonderful, clean, airy, wonderfully maintained. There's no television, no room phones, and it's at the end of a 5k dirt road, but those are not bad things, it's exactly what we were looking for, a... more

The castle is, unquestionably, in a spectacular location and the rooms are acceptable (although the plastic insert shower stall was unfortunate). We didn't mind the rules about registration times or the requirement that cars be parked, after unpacking, outside the gate. We did mind the terrible dinner they served - even modest restaurants in Tuscany provide high quality meals from... more

We need to underline that the pool in may 2007, when he wanted it to be open, was actually NOT put on the market yet; from the correspondence there's no evidence that someone of our staff here promised it open to him. The truth is that the pool was opened officially on 3rd June and it wasn't put on the...

We just returned from our second stay at the castello after 7 years. It is a magical place. We spent 3 nights in an apartment with our 19-year-old daughter, who was sorry to leave. We used the castello as a base for day trips to Siena, Montepulciano, Orvieto, Civita, etc. Then we would retreat to the castello for a wonderful... more

We spent a couple of nights at Castello di Ripa d'Orcia on our honeymoon. It provided us with a central location to explore Montepulciano, Montalcino and even Cortona! The hotel, though, can be a destination itself. It is perched on a hill above the Orcia river and surrounded by forest and vineyards that can be explored on foot or bicycle.... more
