Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Lovely friendly welcoming staff. Great atmosphere. Food is always superb, great choices and fantastic quality. We’ve had the Chateaubriand on our last 2 visits, cooked to perfection and highly recommend! Good choice of ales and wine on offer as well.

So sad to write this review after so many great meals here, where previously 5 stars weren’t enough. However, the cost of living effects everyone including here. The once varied menu has been replaced with somewhat bland offering. Four of us dined, and non of us enjoyed the meals. The starter portions were smaller, the main course was a tad bland and meat tough. Drinks expensive. It’s tough trading out there, but using hard earned cash for a under whelming experience is tough too. Looking forward to seeing the SoL back on top form soon.

Excellent character Inn. Clean and welcoming. Good menu with choice but not over facing. Service was excellent and you were made to feel welcome. Food was of a very high quality and well presented. En-suite rooms are available. The Inn has a car park about 25 metres away. Highly recommended.

Myself and my brother came up to see my daughter who lives in Todmorden and we stayed in the Staff of life for 1 night. Cannot fault the place we had a few beers, a meal and the best night's sleep ever, our host then wrapped up a bacon roll each , with a side hash brown to take with us as we needed to travel back to Swansea early. Both my brother and myself agreed they were the perfect hosts and couldn't do enough for you. Thank you so much, see you next year

Visited today for lunch with a friend. We arrived to an empty dining room, it didn't stay that way for long, quite busy for a Wednesday lunchtime. We started with a glass of Prosecco, we then we both chose the fish pie, this was delicious, it was a good size too, so much so that we could only manage a coffee. It was a very good choice of venue.

A real find last time we were in the area so had to visit again! Once more the food was excellent especially the hake and the Eagle Crag burger! Good beer and wine and also first rate service. This was a cut above most places we ate when we spent a week in Yorkshire and this didn’t disappoint today. They have rooms and we will stay here next time we are up. Dog friendly too which is a real bonus!
