We had a very pleasent 4 day stay in this beautiful Tibetian style hotel. Rooms are clean, nice bathrooms with hot water (24 hours), new white towels - as a reaction to the last comment??- , very friendly good English speaking staff, rich breakfast-buffet. Unfortunately in this low season period the Spa was not opened. The distance to the town was...

Already when you turn into the driveway of the hotel you notice that it doesn't look anything (anymore?) like the attractive picture on the website. Our room was dusty, dirty and run down. The bathroom was dirty, moldy and had awful towels. The 5 Chinese TV channels bring no entertainment and there is insufficient light in the room to read....

We used a travel agent for this portion of our trip and I had asked for a vintage architecturally interesting place. Gyalthang Dzong Hotel is definitely that. It's beautiful and must have an extraordinary talented decorator because the furnishings and fabrics are gorgeous. It's built around a center courtyard in Tibetan style and beneath a bare Tibet-like mountain. No surprise...

The hotel is a good 15 min walk from the centre of town along an unlit, muddy road. This was particularly galling as there was a festival taking place whilst we were there and it would have been great to walk straight out of the hotel into the middle of all the action.
Our bedroom was quite nicely designed with...

I expected Shangrila county to be cold in first week of Nov but I did not expect the lack of heat in the hotel. I came prepared with overcoat two layers of sweaters. My wife had cashmere scarve and gloves. The heat turned on in the room only between 8 pm and 12 midnight. There was no heat in any...

at our roundtrip in Tibet we stayed 2 nights in this beautiful tibetian hotel. The rooms we got were very nice, comfortable and excellent decoration. Beds were excellent and we slept like babies. The service was excellent, we got what we wanted - only problem is that the bar closes around 22:00 and the hotel is located far outside the...

My family stayed here for about four nights at the beginning of August. After reviewing their website, I booked directly with the hotel, which took a bit of effort, but the rate included their nice breakfast, which was not included in the booking site I visited. Other things on the plus side are: absolute quiet at night (nice escape from...

I went to this hotel during a trip in the Yunnan province and I have to say that I was a bit disappointed. From all the information I gathered I was imagining it as a Tibetan style boutique hotel or luxury lodge but it in fact nothing more than a big guest house which makes the price expensive for what...
