We stayed for a night at Chateau de l'Abbaye while driving from Cherbourg to Bordeaux. It's pretty close to the motorway so easy to find as an overnight stop. Our room was spectacular with a huge round bed. We arrived around 10pm but still got some cheese and wine before going to bed. The owners / staff couldn't be more... More

Small, historical countryside B & B. Extremely charming property with very friendly and accomodating owner/hosts. Clean, comfortable and out of the ordinary as you would expect from a quality B & B. Delicious home cooked breakfast and gourmet dinners are optional. Hostess Danielle served us the best meal we had during our trip to France. We would gladly visit again... More

Just what we needed, my daughter and I had a wonderful stay and got a much needed break - "far from the maddening crowd". The food was good, in particular, dinner was excellent. It is a small, cozy and charming family run hotel so some services are limited. But I would not hesitate to recommend it and I would certainly... More

We stayed in the suite with Thais flavours. It's decorated in a very modern/ tastfull style with all the features where you are looking for. Seperate toilet, badroom with jacuzzi (for 2!) and a TV in the mirror (in the badroom). WOW is the word for this room. The service is also quite good, breakfast is with special local flavour... More

Our stay co-incided with a few days in this region. We visited Ile de Re, La Rochelle, & Marais Poiteven. This Chateau is run by wonderfully by a family. Madame, Danielle was the main host during our stay, and worked from early morning until late at night ensuring that all was well with us & we'd had a good day,... More

Le Chateau de l'Abbaye experience exemplified the adage "don't judge a book by it's cover". The cozy ambience and the wonderful hosts surpassed our expectations. We arrived on a very wet day, after sunny days staying at some spectacular Chateaus (the last of which was the Chateau Vaulogé, which, if you google it, was indeed pretty amazing). So the town... We unfortunately only managed to stay one night, but were very impressed. We had the family apartment which was charming and very well equipped with two bedrooms, a kitchenette including table and chairs, a shower room and a second bathroom (with a nice looking jacuzzi, which I wish we had had time to use). Despite being with our two rather... More

We only stayed at le Chateau de L'Abbays for 1 night , we loved it, the house was intrigueing , we had a beautiful room, & the family were very welcoming, dinner was good & breakfast too: We would like to have had a longer say, but had to be in the Dordogne the next day: But we would highly... Highly recommended. Beatiful place with wonderful hosts and good food. The villages nearby aren't really special but la rochelle at 30 minutes is a wonderful place. More

A lovely house with beautiful bedrooms and a very warm welcome. We had one evening meal which was delicious, and Madame Renard gave us plenty of advice on places to visit in the area. Certainly worth a second visit. More
