This is the 2nd time that we have stayed at this hotel. And both at this time of year. I got 1 night for £60 with breakfast which was a good bargain. When we arrived the check in desk was unsupervised, however there were instructions as to what we needed to to. We had to call a number on the... more

My Wife and I stayed here last week on the way up to Scotland. Located in the small town of Rothbury, the Hotel sits well overlooking the river, and is impresive as you drive up. The reception and sitting rooms are on the ground floor, with the bar and restaurant on the 1st and rooms on the 2nd. The staff... more

From the outside, the hotel is unprepossessing, but we were pleasantly surprised whn we entered the building. Our room was at the front of the hotel and was described as "superior double". It was a large room with an enormous bed - some slight traffic noise, but nothing to spoil our stay. The bathroom was also spacious and contained a... more

Stayed 3 nights (third night free) B&B. Very friendly staff. Large comfortable room, slightly old fashioned wallpaper but it is a victorian building. Twin beds, very comfortable with super white sheets and duvets. Ensuite bathroom, only problem shower head from taps and no curtain. Great views of the hills from the room (8). Extremely quiet after restaurant closes at 11.00... more

Could do with tissues and waste bin in the bathroom. A shelf on which to put wash bags etc would also be appreciated. An excellent place to stay if visiting Cragside. Generally a pleasing experience. more

Nice location, good restaurant and service. General decor of hotel was a little shabby in places and could do with being upgraded. Large room with en suite (including spa bath), but TV only visible from the settee and not from the bed. Breakfast rather poor for this standard of hotel - tea extremely weak and both tea and coffee without... more

An ideal base from which to get out and about across Northumberland. An excellent restaurant meant that the hotel was very busy most evenings with non-residential diners. Thr room was satisfactory for our needs more

We were greeted by Chris, the owner, on our arrival. He was very friendly and helpful. We had chosen a superior room, which had excellent views and was of a high standard. The food was superb, both for the evening meals( in the hotel's Italian reataurant) and the breakfasts. The restaurant was busy each evening, which is a testament to... more

Good hotel and restaurant Bedrooms and breakfast good - pity about the music being the same as in the evening not sure it was appreciated in the morning. Garden and some parts needed a tidy up. more

The entrance and reception were poor and if we had not booked we could have been put off staying. No one was at reception and despite following the instructions on the reception desk we still had to wait at least 5 minutes before anyone came. The carpets were dirty, the decor was poor and the adjoining rooms looked like store... more

Management response from

Thank you for your comments its very pleasing to see you enjoyed your stay. The reason for the reception area being sub standard and looking like a store room was we had just had a water leak and had to move furniture. Thanks for your comments
