We've just returned home from our trip to to the Outer Hebrides and have been thoroughly delighted with our accommodation, that is until we ended up at the Isle of Barra Hotel.  We booked  a "Superior Room" expecting to finish our stay on Barra in a little style. Oh dear...on approaching the the Hotel we could see what could only... more

This is an excellent hotel in a superb location. The vibe is very 1970's school trip given the architecture and the hotel rooms! It is well run and very friendly, the beach right beside the hotel is one of the nicest I've been on (if not the warmest) and the view from the restaurant is exceptional. However, the food was... more

We loved it, the location is just spectacular! The staff and owners could not have been more helpful, they were friendly, they kept us informed and made a conscious effort to predict what we might need. The food was fantastic and great value. We especially liked the lounge with views onto the beach and the small cinema for the windiest... more

Having a dog, and finding a B&B or even better a hotel that will have us both is difficult enough. But to find a hotel that is so welcoming, friendly, not just to me, but to the doggie also, helped make the holiday to The Isle of Barra an absolute treat. We used the hotel as a base to explore... more

I have read some of the reviews below and cannot believ we have visited the same hotel! My wife and I visited Barra for the first time this year and I can heartily recommend The Isle of Barra hotel. The staff were very friendly, the hotel itself is wonderfully decorated, (although I know the owners are currently still renovating). The lounge... more

Completely and comprehensively awful; expensive, run down, with rude and unhelpful staff. It should be closed down. A blight upon the beautiful Hebrides. more

Arrived after a long ferry journey only to be faced with a poor vastly overpriced hotel. Rooms were substandard with old antiquated furniture. Windows did not open making room hot and stuffy. No electric shower only hose connected to bath taps. Only saving grace was location , public areas looked nice but we did not wait long enough to find... more

Great views: wonderful location: very friendly locals: decent food and good public areas. That’s the good news. Mine hosts, unfortunatley, seemed to be in the wrong business: seemingly unable to communicate with each other, the paying customers don’t really stand a chance. In the 2 years since they arrived, they seem to have built a dubious reputation on the local... more

Stayed here a couple of times now as it the only place we could get rooms at short notice. The location is stunning with the deserted beach and turquoise sea 5 minute from the ferry terminal, the lounge and restuarant are nice with decent food being served, the bars ok too, it's the rooms where the problems are. It's an... more

First impressions when you walk in is that it looks quite nice as the restauant and lounge look quite nice. Im afraid thats where it ends.Once you look past the cheap laminate flooring and painted breezblock walls it begins to make sense. The owners have spent a little money on the inside and wasted a lot of money painting the... more
