Arrived at Barra from Glasgow on the twin otter aircraft on the cockle strand, and was an experience in itself, it is a 17 seater plane, no bar service but you can see the pilot at the steering wheel which is comforting, catch the bus to the capital of Barra, Castlebay. Reception at the Craigard we were greeted by Julian... more

Cosy and very relaxing hotel in the main settlement on Barra, with an unrivalled view of Catslebay's castle. The room we stayed in was spacious, clean and had the same lovely view as the bar and restaurant and we were treated to massive fresh scallops hand-dived by the islanders. As a regular visitor to the Scottish islands I often find... more

Spent a week with my wife on the beautiful Isle of Barra, a stunning little island that can't be faulted as far as natural beauty is concerned. Can't say the same for our accommodation however. We found our room, dated and slightly depressing, cleaning wasn't up to par either...we're not complainers and overlooked the general sloppiness. Found the staff too... more

We travelled to Barra with friends and stayed at the Craigard Hotel. We were made to feel very welcome and nothing was too much trouble for the owners. The views are amazing from the hotel. The rooms are well equiped, very comfortable and spotlessly clean. The restuarant food was excellent especially the seafood. We really enjoyed our stay and woud recommend... more

Never stayed in the hotel but used the bar a couple of times & had a meal one night. The owner is a nice guy & the atmosphere in the bar was good & friendly. Meal was really nice in a lovely setting high up looking onto the bay. more

My wife and I stayed in the Outer Hebrides for 9 nights and the Craigard hotel was by far the worst of the five hotels we stayed in on the Islands. Fortunately we only spent one night in room 5 a very small "double" at the rear. The first thing I noticed in my en suite room was a wash... more

I Travelled to Barra with my partner for a relaxing break which is what we got! The scenery on Barra is spectacular - white sand, turquoise sea and mountains. The hotel is located in Castlebay which is the main village on Barra. It's an excellent location, only a short walk to the shops and cafes. We were made to feel... more

A very warm welcome awaits you at this ideally placed small hotel in Castlebay, Barra. Decor may be slightly dated (ask for room 7 - it has been tastefully redecorated and has a spectacular view of Kisimul Castle) but the hotel is very comfortable, with a pleasant adjoining bar and large outdoor terrace for soaking up the rays. Breakfast is... more

The view from the hotel was superb and though externally the hotel appeared dated, we found we had a very pleasant , comfortable refurbished room. The restaurant offered a varied menu served by extemely helpful young staff who were a credit to their Island. Plentiful parking and just one minute drive to the ferry, made this an excellent place to... more

I stayed here with my father over a long weekend, and although the hotel boasted great views of Kisimul Castle, the noise level at night was horrible!! I stayed in Room #1, which was right over the bar area. If I knew I was staying at a pub, I would have never booked this place! The locals come here to... more
