Bakers Lodge is a good place to base yourself for trips to Abel Tasman Park and the reception staff were really helpful in recommending activities and also organising them for you.

Dorms were okay but quite cold in the evening. Kitchen was okay but most of the equipment was a bit old and grubby. TV lounge is nice and warm but the archaeic video system involves you asking in reception for them to put on the video you want to watch and you going back up to watch up upstairs (ie you cant pause, FWD, RWD, stop etc).

The hostel also houses a lot of long-term fruit pickers who get up quite early in the morning so it can be a bit noisy. more
