Having spent the last 4 summers at a 5 star rated (per Tripadvisor) studios in Skiathos, we thought we would give the Nostos and Thassos a try. We knew it did not have a pool, that was clear from the Tui site, and we don’t really use a pool anyway, but tend to sit around it and read books, due to our stressful lives / careers. This is a beach lover’s paradise. It is about 10 minutes from the beach, although you should be aware that the beach is busy. The restaurants on the beach front (turn left out of Nostos and keep going) offer free sunbeds providing you buy drinks and food from them. Although we did not do this, we were told it was not an unreasonable arrangement. Many guests went to the beach during the day. We stayed on our balcony (room 5, which is noted in a review earlier) where we had the sun coming through the trees from about 8am to 1pm. When we were used to it we would sit on the benches in the gardens in the afternoon. Consequently it was very quiet. Yes it is on a “main” road, but not a very busy one. Yes, there are no pavements – welcome to the Greek islands ! George the owner is very helpful and friendly – if you want a cab somewhere he will arrange it for you. He also sells 3 or 4 beers from his bar plus wine, etc. 2022 prices – a bottle of beer is EUR 3.00 (not sure what the cider was) and a glass of wine also EUR 3.00, very reasonable. He also does cocktails, I can’t remember the exact price but they were all less than EUR 9.00. George also sells a 6 pack of bottled water for EUR 3.00. I am not sure how much they were in the supermarkets but it is a lot less distance to lug them back to your room ! There is a book swap in George’s office. We also used the air conditioning when we were there as it was very hot – this we found to be relatively quiet and modern. There is a large supermarket and 3 or 4 restaurants about 5 – 7 minutes away near the entrance to the campsite. To get there turn left out of the Nostos, then right on the first signposted road after about 250 yards, then left at the first proper road after another 250 yards, where there are a couple of guest studios on that corner. You will see the entrance to the campsite in front of you. Just before the entrance turn left, the supermarket is about 100 yards down on the left. A smaller supermarket can be found at the start of the beach front restaurants – turn left out of Nostos, keep walking on that road and it is about 10 minutes down on the left. Overall we enjoyed it – it was quiet. Our one comment is maybe they could put a few sunbeds in the gardens for people who do not want to go to the beach, or maybe for people returning from the beach early. But as others have said the gardens are beautifully looked after and something is being done to them almost every day (watering, cutting grass, dead heading, etc.) Not sure that we would go back – certainly not in late July / early August as it was very hot, but don’t let that put you off. As I say it is perfect for beach lovers, or tranquil if you want to stay on your patio / the gardens.…
