We are 52/51 and enjoy all sorts of different holidays but generally we would rather spend our money on the holiday itself rather than luxurious accommodation. This was the least expensive holiday we have taken for some years but we still had quite high expectations following some very positive reviews. The owner met us off the coach after a near perfect transfer involving a coach and a ferry (no romantic ideas about the ferry - it is a vehicle and passenger ferry and very utilitarian!) and led us through a couple of rubbish strewn alleys (the bins aren't emptied between Friday morning and Monday morning and are inadequate) to the studios. The first thing to say is that the studios are not as isolated as the photos in the Portland brochure may lead you to believe, they are in the middle of a residential area and very closely surrounded by similar or smaller buildings - however it is quite nice to feel as though you are" in the community" to some extent.
