We had a one night stay with the intention of spending a day at the Malton Food Lovers festival, which was unfortunately a bit of a washout due to the awful weather. We stayed in an executive room which was lovely in every respect. The room was huge with a beautiful bathroom, high quality toiletries and a very comfortable super... More

As we arrived the staff were polishing the front door, this is the attention to detail you can expect from this quality hotel. From the second we walked in the front door we appreciated the quality of the hotel and the friendliness of all the staff, even passing waitresses would greet you with a friendly hello, whilst discretely ensuring they... As a luxury treat I think this hotel would be hard to beat. Our room was enormous albeit with no view. The bathroom was very luxurious and lovely smellies. The staff were very polite and friendly and appeared to enjoy being there unlike some hotels you visit!! Even better the majority of them were English!! The food was out of... More

This is a special hotel. We had a lovely room with an amazing bathroom and both were immaculate. Dinner in the restaurant was superb and the best I've had a for a long time. I'm quite a grouch of a customer and moan a lot but in this case I had nothing to moan about. The young staff were efficient,... More

We went to Yorkshire for a couple of days and as foodies we decided to stay at The Talbot. We were not disappointed as the dining experience was excellent and it was an added bonus that James Martin, their executive chef, was actually there. The hotel itself is very comfortable and the staff friendly and attentive. Its location is ideal... More

3 days away with friends to celebrate a Birthday and visit the relatively new food festival. The hotel has been beautifully refurbished. There are spacious rooms with high quality bathrooms/showers. The public rooms are very well furnished with a fantastically well stocked bar (many varieties of whiskey, gin and rum) and large residents lounge. The staff were very friendly, polite and... More

Fabulous old grade 2 listed coaching inn that has been very well renovated. Only problem is that because of this there is no lift. The restaurant menu is supervised by James Martin and is of a very high standard but not too expensive. Staff are very efficient and always give a good service.

We booked an overnight stay to celebrate MY birthday, and OUR anniversary. On arrival we were told we had been "upgraded" to the suite....lovely surprise! The room was beautiful, spotlessly clean and HUGE. Very nice bedroom combined with bathroom, a very large comfortable lounge area adjoining! We had reserved a table for dinner, and after a drink in the bar area... More

Our daughters bought us an overnight stay with dinner as a Christmas present. When we arrived we were shown to the Fitzwilliam suite which turned out to be a complimentary upgrade. Our daughters are generous, but not THAT generous! What a fabulous suite! A 6ft four poster bed was the centrepiece but the whole room and the adjoining sitting area... More

We booked the hotel with the hope of eating the food of James Martin, which we did, but not cooked by him. Being an avid follower of Saturday Kitchen Live I was so excited to be there. Obviously I was very nieve to think he would be there but, at the time very disappointed he wasn't,after our 3 hour journey... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
The Talbot Hotel has recently been fully restored. Classic British design now meets traditional values of comfort and unobtrusive service for an elegant hotel with 26 bedrooms, landscaped gardens and a great restaurant. We are in the heart of the North Yorkshire market town of Malton, 20 minutes from the city of York. Visitors here are spoilt for choice. In fully restoring the Talbot Hotel, we have created 26 individual bedrooms – each one capturing the elegant spirit of a property that is more than 300 years old, whilst meeting your expectations for complete comfort and convenience. You'll find sumptuous beds, the finest linen, modern bathrooms and luxury toiletries, set to Vivien Greenock's imaginative interior designs. With Malton-born chef James Martin now in charge of the kitchen, the Talbot Hotel tops the list of must-visit places for local and visiting gastronomes. James, who is well-known for his cookery shows on BBC and Channel 4, makes the most of the area's renowned butchers, fishmongers, game dealers, farmers and cheesemakers to produce menus of classic but simple food of the highest quality. "North Yorkshire is in my blood," he says. "And I've been thrilled to see my home town of Malton build a reputation as a foodie destination based on the abundance of growers and producers in the area." "Guests can look forward to finding all my favourite Yorkshire produce on the menu from Wakefield rhubarb to Whitby crab." The menu at the Talbot changes regularly to take advantage of the seasons. Dishes are produced with flair by a team of highly trained chefs and served in a professional yet understated manner. 50-cover restaurant Drawing room with open fires Bar and informal dining Wentworth room for private functions for up to 65 people Morning coffee and light bites in the bar and lounge Afternoon cream teas, cakes, sandwiches and drinks in the Drawing Room Traditional Sunday roast in the restaurant Hand-pulled cask bitter and wide selection of wines by the glass in the bar Wines from around the world including select vintages from the renowned 'Chateau Talbot.' ... more   less
