Very worn out room.Squeaky old bed, broken drawers on cabinet.Window and door that rattled unless stuffed with cardboard. Very small bathroom.Hall light broken so hard to find door and lock. Expensive but captive audience.First pint was disgusting, tasted of cleaning fluid, barman agreed and gave us different beer. However very nice(unusual) bar and restaurant.Dinner took almost 3 hours but they were very... more

We stayed here for two nights and have to agree with the majority of comments, this place is certainly quirky, in a nice way. The friendly staff, excellent food and the great range of malt whiskies and Belguim beers are the strong points of The Anderson. Our room was relatively spacious, more than adequate and clean, although Jim (the owner)... more

A warm, snug bar/dining area is enlivened by a wood-burning stove and here you are offered a remarkable menu drawn up and prepared by the award-winning, inventive owners. Jim is pleased when his guests are pleased. Good humour is everywhere, starting with a compact dimly-lit theatrical reception area complete with fishing rods and a fish dangling from kitchen scales. The... more

Less than half an hour from the centre of Inverness, this must be THE place to stay in the area. My room, up two flights of a delightful staircase, was newly refurbished and though on the small side was close to perfection. Ample storage space, comfortable cozy bed, tea, coffee, biscuits, mint chocolate on the pillow, and even a selection... more

I visited with my wife on an impromptu short holiday to the Black isle and found the comments of other Tripadvisor contributors to be well founded. The overall ethos at The Anderson Hotel comes from the USA background of the owners Jim and Anne Anderson, service is a given since Jim is ever present seeing things happen the way he... more

From the moment we arrived the owners and staff of The Anderson did everything they could to ensure that we had an enjoyable and pleasant stay. The cosy bar and quirky room provided a welcoming home-from-home, and we found our brief stay to be a delight. We did not spend an evening in Fortrose, so did not sample the restaurant,... more

We stayed in The Anderson for our 1st Wedding Anniversary. We were touring Scotland for a week and after reading the reviews, decided this was the place we wanted to stay. Fortrose is a lovely village which we'd definately return to. The old Cathedral is breathtaking and the little cafe we had lunch in was wonderful too. Jim gave us... more

A proper "inn", with the drink and food being the priority. Room was comfortable and clean, if a little basic in some aspects, but we only wanted to sleep in it anyway. Jim the host is a natural and makes everyone feel important. Ambience is laid back and warm. Staff were efficient and friendly. More Belgian lagers than you could... more

What an unusual place ! On arrival the pub was shut but we soon found someone to help. The owner then came to greet us and what an affable man he is. Even made such a fuss of our dog, Jack - who immediately warmed to him - always a good sign! Very relaxed and laid back - you could... more
