Our room was lovely and the bed very comfortable but our room was at the rear of hotel so we missed out on the sea view. Facilities in the room were as you would expect with good wifi signal. Would definitely revisit but would aim for a room at the front of the hotel with the sea view.

Great location, food was good. Staff overall was friendly with a couple exceptions. Bed was very comfortable, room very clean. Some of the locals that frequent the bar gave a feeling of suspicion but I never felt uncomfortable. I enjoyed sitting at the bar after dinner for a couple drinks, but was never able to connect with anyone.

A wonderful welcome after a difficult journey! Simon was easy to communicate with and very helpful. The rooms were excellent - very comfortable with everything we needed. Delicious Scottish breakfast and great to be able to order a smaller portion for those with smaller appetites. Thank you so much. We would love to return!

I had a meal in the bar and was very disappointed with the portion size of the fish. I go here atleast once a month. The haddock is normally the size of the plate. On this occasion the fish was very small and very thin hardly any meat on it. It qas like the size of a pensioners portion but I paid £17.50. The service was excellent as always however

Response from Simon Cruickshank, Owner at The Ship Inn

I don't know what happened here but it would have been more sensible to speak to our staff at the time so we could address your complaint instead of going on to Tripadvisor. This is always my advice. As you say, our portions are usually generous and we haven't changed suppliers for years. My only suggestion is that your order got mixed up with someone else's who'd ordered a children's portion (which shouldn't happen!). Please contact us directly so we can sort this matter out.

Daughter is celiac and after phoning to confirm in advance they can cater. Which stated yes and providing menu that 80% has Gf. Once we arrived and seated I mentioned this again and was advised yes all marked. But once I asked if it’s cooked in a separate fryer was told no cooked with fish. Even the chips. Was offered potato’s and grilled chicken. Which after the waiter already talking to the chief twice and not understanding. We left without eating and they don’t understand. This was my daughter birthday which put a damper on it for her. Ended up eating next door in the marine much better knowledge.

Response from Simon Cruickshank, Owner at The Ship Inn

This is a complete misrepresentation of our communication with this (non) customer. We have never claimed that 80% of our menu is gluten free. As this "review" is so hard to understand due to the lack of grammar etc, I can't be sure what we are actually being accused of but, to clarify, we cook chips and onion rings in one fryer and fish and chicken etc in another one so that there is no possibility of meat products contaminating vegetarian ones. We cannot guarantee that chips will have zero gluten (and have never tried to) and offer alternatives for those people who feel they are at risk, such as boiled potatoes. One of our staff (at least) is coeliac and has never had a problem with our chips. I resent the accusation that we have a lack of understanding about allergens - this person wilfully misinterpreted our advice and reported us to the Environmental Health Dept (who found that our kitchen and practices were beyond reproach) just because we didn't and couldn't give her the answers she wanted.

Very friendly staff in what is clearly a firm favourite of locals and those coming from afar Great views over the harbour from the dining room and rooms above Food well cooked and portions are generous. Delighted they could cater for my Coeliac wife Its a good welcoming inn.

Such a beautiful & picturesque Hotel. All the best views are so close by and accessible, if like us, that's your thing. The bar always had a great atmosphere too, but we don't drink so didn't spend a lot of time there. We did enjoy some lovely coffee & a catch up with Relatives, who enjoyed the Whiskey & the many different options of drinks available. The staff were so friendly and helpful, even going above and beyond to help us out after our stay. Fantastic level of service all round. The room was perfect, super comfy, perfectly clean & the view was everything we had hoped for. We enjoyed a Vegetarian Breakfast in the Restuarant after heading out early to watch the sunrise. The food was amazing, so much choice available and a large selection of fruit juices, fruit, cereals, croissants & cooked food. Whatever you would fancy for breakfast, they pretty much have it all covered. Service was once again amazing & the view from the Restuarant over the harbour just made it perfect. Will most definetely be back for a stay here, hopefully a longer one next time.…

Very enjoyable stay at the Ship Inn. Good room with harbour view and great bar which served very good food. Friendly and accommodating staff. The hotel is located immediately in front of the harbour and we enjoyed watching some unbelievable waves during the most recent storm. Great location.

Had a wonderful stay here. Friendly, hard working staff. Room was clean and comfortable. Checked in at the bar, stairs to rooms are in a locked hall on the side of the building. Rooms are a bit small if you have a lot of luggage.
