We recently spent our wedding anniversary at Windlestraw on a cold wet Scottish weekend in November. The warmth and friendliness of the property matched those of the owners. Lovely cosy open fires and comfy sofas throughout. We stayed in the superb Macintosh room which was enormous and luxurious. The food was top class and service was professional throughout. We will... more

My wife and I never go abroad but do travel quite extesively in the UK. We particularly love Scotland. Windlestraw was a wonderful new find for us, nothing was too much trouble and our room was delightful. I can honestly say we have never eaten better in a hotel and the attention paid by Paul to my wife's allergies was... more

We had a wonderful relaxing 3 days at the end of June. Our room was very clean and comfortable with a fabulous view. The hotel is very well placed for visiting the surrounding towns . However the absolute highlight of our stay was the food . I dont think we have ever experienced such delicious quality food . Everything from the... more

My husband brought me here for a birthday treat and it was just perfect. We live in Edinburgh so it's only about 30 miles away but it's another world. On the edge of a little village not too far from Peebles, it's set in a large garden and has great views across the valley. The room we stayed in (Willison)... more

The Windlestraw exceeded our expectations--absolutely beautifully furnished, immaculate, peaceful location, gorgeous dining room, and true gourmet dinners. Alan and Julie are wonderful hosts who went out of their way to make sure we enjoyed ourselves in the Tweed Valley. They gave us excellent sightseeing and walking suggestions. Alan's fabulous gourmet dinners were beautifully presented. An article was recently devoted to him... more

Our usual weekend haunt in the Scottish Borders was closed and, when friends whose opinion we value warmly recommended Windlestraw, we decided to give it a try. We're glad we did. It's an excellent small hotel run by friendly and accommodating hosts, who are unobtrusively but unmistakably professional. The location overlooking the Tweed valley is beautiful: it's less than 40... more

We have unfortunately had to return home after a very poor experience at the above hotel. We had to return home arriving in the early hours of the morning, having been told 30 minutes after our arrival, in no uncertain terms that the dining area is off limits to children. We had booked to stay for a celebratory weekend "dining... more

In response to this critisism, our version of events is somewhat different. Three couples booked for our special two night break, one of the dinners featuring a tasting menu. Two of the couples arrived in the afternoon, relaxed and happy and came for down for drinks at 6.00pm. The third couple, who were bringing a baby, did not arrive until...

The lodge we stayed was really beautifully decorated inside, nice big garden and amazing view. The breakfast and dinner were really 5 star quality. The price we found slightly too expensive. more

We stay at Windlestraw a couple of times a year and wouldn't actually consider going anywhere else for our respective birthdays. In fact, if it wasn't out of deep respect for our waistlines and livers, we would stay longer than the couple of nights we do each time! Alan and Julie (we'll come to the mutt in a minute) go... more
