I should come clean: it's not an hotel - it's a library. A library with full residential facilities! Great atmosphere for research and writing, very friendly staff and residents, comfortable rooms and great food! Residents may have a religious background and be a bit middle-aged but it's not essential!
It all started when W.E.Gladstone donated his library to the nation in 1889. The library now contains c. 250,000 items ranging from church history through literature to philosophy.
Great place for conferences, workshops or touring. Six miles from Chester, easy reach of Liverpool and Manchester. Don't stray too far from the friendly common room (newspapers, log fires, conversation)
