This lodge/B&B was advertised in Lonely Planet as being "friendly," but our experience was just the opposite. Although the rooms were clean and comfortable (electric blankets, plenty of space), our hosts were unwelcoming and negative. The first night, they said they did not have enough food to give us a breakfast and disapproved of our plans to do the Tongariro Crossing hike using our own transportation (I imagine they get a percentage of the bus transportation fees which are quite steep). They also said the weather would be bad and that our kids were too young (weather and kids were both fine). The next day they would not let us have breakfast in the main dining room, saying it was only for the B&B customers, and that they "couldn't wait till all these city people left." Maybe they are just in the wrong business...? more
