You have got to be a real fuss pot not to enjoy staying in the castle hostel. Alex Bulloch's War Research Society www.battlefieldtours.org.uk is the only battlefield tour operator who offers the opportunity to stay at Colditz Castle in this splendid facility. There is en-suite in all rooms, very clean and quite unique. The tour of the castle is first... More

Having not hosteled for at least 20 years this was an amazing experience. I traveled with two friends from work as we wanted to visit the castle, finding that we could also stay at the same location was a real bonus for us. Arriving at nightbthe schools colditz looked every bit as inspiring as I expected it to be. The... More

Having learned that Colditz Castle had been turned into a youth hostel, my brother and I ventured south from Berlin to check it out for a night. The castle (though it's really a palace) went from being a royal residence, to a hospital, to a mental asylum, to a Nazi war camp, to an old age home. These days, while... More

We stayed two nights at the Schloss YH. It is housed in the magnificent castle in what was the German quarters in WW2 and subsequently a hospital and old folks home. The double rooms with ensuite were spacious, plenty of room to spread gear about. Breakfast was okay with the usual buffet style of continental fare. More

Easy to get to by Public transport - a mix of train and bus. Have visited some hostels where you just can't get the hang of finding it; well here its the big castle on top of the hill! Staff are friendly, not alot of local info but may be a good base if you wat to stay out of... More

Standard youth hostel but nice because it's all shiny new. No facilities to make or store your own food. One (very provincial) restaurant in town that closes at 8pm if there are no customers - but food was delicious, if pork-heavy. Hostel breakfast bread-and-spread based, and a bit chaotic with the many youth groups surging in. Bit of a trek... More

We stayed here for one night, booked a double room (with the help of some German friends as there isn't much in the way of an English website) which had another room adjoined to it although we had the place to ourselves. It was very clean and comfortable and it was easy to pay extra for towels and bedding. All... More

I stayed with five friends for one night at the Colditz Casle Youth Hostel. We had two rooms each with six beds and their own bathroom, so had plenty of space. The rooms and bathrooms were spotless and the linen provided looked brand new. Breakfast was included in the tariff and it was very good, even flowers on the table!... More

I stayed in the Youth Hostel in Colditz Castel for one night - I'd decided to stay here as I wanted to do the extended POW tour which started at 10.30am which was to early for me to get to from Berlin. The youth hostel is very clean and basic - no towels or soap so bring your own! It's... More
