We got here in the afternoon after a very bumby 3 hour drive from Arenal. We were the only guests and could choose from several rooms. No dinner was available for us, as we did not raise the request in advance. The wind was so strong that the canopy tours were closed and if you do not have a car,... More

We stayed here three nights and loved it. The owners were super-friendly and helpful, both with advice and booking tours. They had a big BBQ one night, and while a little pricey, was easily one of the best meals we had during our two weeks in Costa Rica. The ranch is, in fact, a working ranch, and the grounds are... My best friend and I stayed here a year ago so this is a long overdue review. We both completely recommend staying at rancho makena. The whole family is lovely and inviting. They made us sandwiches when we arrived and made us breakfast- an amazing delicious meal with coffee and fresh juice- every morning. We were their only guests at... More

Thank you Carlso and Family for providing a wonderful stay. Rooms - were clean and setup was very cute designed and had the comfort of a cabin. We enjoyed the view and the location was out a bit, but it was very nice to have it away from everything and get true nature. Our Family enjoyed this place and would... More

We stayed there recently (about 10 days ago) for 3 days. The place is very remote and the cabin was average and basic though the Inn keepers have kept it very neat. To get to any destination, we need to hire either a taxi or the hosts themselves offered to give us a ride for a nominal charge of $5... More

Carlos and Rosanna have a great place to stay. Just a word of warning that it is not close to town so you will have to either take taxis but often Carlos will drive you into town. They had a huge bbq one night with too much food! It was a delicious array of meat and local fare. Their young... More

Beautiful views of the cloud forest. Nice trails to walk around on. The owners were very friendly and made us feel welcome. They helped us book tours and let us use their computer. They let us help milk and feed the cows. The cabin we stayed in was clean, but a bit musty. It was quite windy there at night,... More

Carlos and his wife were so accommodating when we arrived at their little ranch/farm. They were extremely kind and made our food for us personally and it was excellent food. They served us food whenever we wanted, which was really nice since they sometimes did not eat at the same time. Also they were so willing to take us into... More

The hosts, a couple with 2 young children, made us feel very welcome and at home during our 3 nights at Rancho Makena. We have 2 girls, 11 & 13, and they loved playing with the 2 children. The food was good, the view spectacular, and the ranch was worth visiting on its own. We got to help milk the... More

3 friends and I stayed here for 2 nights. We intended on 3 but got lost near los Junas. Tip - If planning on driving here from Arenal Volcano, leave very early! Driving in Costa Rica can be crazy and we had to book at La Pacifica because it got dark. It gets dark here around 6 pm year round.... More
