We did not go to Monteverde/Santa Elena for the nightlife, shopping or all the extra activities like zip-lining or horseback. We went to hike and get away from it all. The Bosque was perfect. We shopped at the small grocery and CASEM very close to our hotel and ate at Stella's Bakery. We were able to walk back from the... more

This hotel was quite enjoyable durring the day. Becasue it sits on the outskirts of the forest, there are many trails to hike and many creatures to see. While staying there our group got to feed adorable spider monkeys and see many birds. There are also neat things to do very close by such as visit the small supermarket, co-op... more

This place is a nightmare!! I stayed here with my high school students (I am a teacher) and we all hated it. It is far from the 'downtown' area and at night, there are no lights and you can't see a thing!! There was a large rat waiting for me at the door of my little 'hut'. Inside the rooms,... more

This hotel is not very attractive but once you get to Monteverde area you don't want to drive once it gets dark. As I already mentioned, roads are horrible....But you also don't want to go to sleep at 6pm. That's why I recommend this hotel. Unique Qualities: Staff is exceptionally friendly and helpful. Right next to the hotel you can... more

I thought the room was very basic but a decent size in beautiful surroundings. The shower was hot but the bed was very uncomfortable. There was a coffee maker in the room but no coffee or coffee cups. Luckily, we saw very few bugs. The young woman (was she even 16 years old?) at the front desk was not friendly... more

The front desk staff were incredibly helpful and friendly- always willing to call a taxi, make reservations for a tour, and give advice about the surrounding areas. Hotel El Bosque is located a few minutes drive outside of Santa Elena so be prepared to take a $3 taxi ride every time you want to go into town (where the majority... more

I was expecting a little more privacy from reading the other reviews. It is off the main road but this hotel is set up like a motel with windows looking right out at a central "plaza" where you park your car and other guests walk by all night and day. My husband had to unscrew the light bulb on the... more

I loved this hotel. The room was small and simple but adorably decorated and very cheerful. The grounds were so peaceful and lovely: lots of trees, lots of flowers and very quiet even though the place was fully booked. I had the best espresso on my trip in their restaurant so good that I went to the grocery store and... more

Hotel El Bosque is the place to stay in Monteverde! The staff was so accommodating and friendly and put up with my attempts at Spanish with a smile. The room was incredibly spacious and extremely clean. It's location is the best in the area since you are very close to the Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve, the town of Santa Elena... more

My sister and I arrived in Monteverde amidst a seriously long and severe downpour. This wasn't exactly unexpected, given that it is a rainforest, but even the locals told us that it was an unseasonable amount of rain. The canopy tour we wanted to do was out of the question, and half of the shops and restaurants in St. Helena... more
