Nicely secluded location with a Rainforest walk in the backyard. For its price it was worth while. Service can be better, however it is the owners who take care of everything. more

We were very apprehensive about our stay in this village. But, we thoroughly enjoyed the tranquility. Of course, for $20 we won't get any luxuries, but its a great place to tuck in and enjoy the rain forest. The sunset views and that of gulf of nicoyo were spectacular. And, the owner Vitalis is very knowledgeable and friendly. They also... more

We stopped at a tourist information shop outside of town and the very friendly guy recommended this small hotel. The hotel owner drove into town to meet us and show us the way to the hotel. It is conveniently located just out of town up on the side of a mountain on the way to the Santa Elena Cloud Forest... more

My husband and I stumbled on this small hotel with AMAZING views quite by accident. We had driven up from Tamarindo and were at the long end of a rough day. The owner came and met us at our SUV while we were discussing where to stay , showed us the rooms and we were sold!! The owner was quite... more

Sunset is a budget hotel but service is better than I have gotten at much pricier hotels. Vitalis runs the place and was a wonderful host. He was very friendly and helpful despite our incessant requests/neediness. He assisted us with transportation needs, groceries, park information, beer, dinner, and whatever else we needed. He is extremely friendly and has a wonderful... more

This place is great if you're on a tight budget and don't mind sleeping with the creepy crawlies. There were lots of moths in our room and there was even a scorpion. The towels were old and stained and the bed sheets were probably there since the hotel first opened. The washroom was also not cleaned the next day and... more

This hotel was perfectly located between the town center of Santa Elena and the Santa Elena Preserve. The owner is German and very friendly and helpful. The rooms were clean, big but basic. The showers were nice and hot. Breakfast was included in the price of $38/night. Such a pleasant stay! more

I'll try to keep this short. Great location, once you find it. Nothing is easy to find in this area. Near Santa Elena Reserve and Selvatura. View of the Nicoya Penninsula and Bay. A short drive to view Arenal Lake and Volcano (go early in morning). Nice, clean rooms. Breakfast of eggs, fruit, bread coffee and juice was just right... more

This is the second time we've stayed at the Sunset Hotel. I really like this little place. First & foremost, it is rustic. As in, not luxury in any shape or form. It does have hot water, but no heat, AC, pool, TV, Internet, etc. It's you, and CR. That being said, so long as you know what to expect,... more
