The $60 per day addition to our room rate was easily worth it. When in Seattle, we would have been hard pressed for the two of us to eat dinner for $60, and this is good home cooked food.   "My husband and I stayed at Newhalem campground for 2 nights in August 2012 and had a great time. The campground is rather large and set amongst towering pine trees, which adds to the seclusion of the sites from one another. The bathrooms were very clean, but don't have showers. There is a list of pl..."aces within 20min that you can get a shower though. The rangers were very nice and knowledgable. One of them told us about Ladder Creek Falls just up the road, which is a series of waterfalls that the electric plant lights up with different colored lights. It's really a nice walk at night. This campground is in a great location for hiking the many trails of the North Cascades and you can walk to one of the visitors centers from the campground. The food at the ranch is wonderful and is shared with others on long, hand hewn log tables. The coffee is always on. Word on the Pacific Crest Trail is "the best food on the trail is at the SVR". The Courtneys are one of the few families who chose to live here year around. It is an interesting culture. It is not cheap to get there as there are no roads.
