"Our walk group stayed for three nights in the Mountain Duck cottage - which is great accommodation for groups. The proprietors (Jill and Rob) were very friendly and helpful upon our arrival; and the cottage was very clean, comfortable and well equipped for self catering. It is furnished with mod..."ern amenities; and the wood fire was perfect for keeping the cottage warm during the cold nights. The "city" dogs enjoyed exploring the well fenced yard, and meeting the local wildlife.
It was centrally located for our walks in the southern Grampians, and around Cavendish; and also a good location for touring the district. We were impressed with the friendly staff and great service at the Bunyip hotel in Cavendish - which has a good variety of meal options on the menu.
Mountain Duck cottage is good, comfortable accommodation for a relaxing escape into the country.

"Our extended family of 13 (9 adults, 4 kids and 4 dogs) stayed here over the last weekend of the school holidays and had a fantastic time! We had Stonycroft Cottage plus the Shearers Quarters, which are all enclosed by a fence so the dogs could run around but not escape. Beds were really comfy and a..."ll had electric blankets, and there's a very cosy fireplace, however we had lovely mild weather so sat outside each night with candlelight and did some stargazing. Bathrooms all heated too and very modern. Overall spotless. Rob the owner is amazingly hospitable and took the kids out to feed the sheep one morning - a big highlight - and even came back for a second round for some adults who felt they'd missed out! It was a bit cool to swim but the pool has a great diving board and is quite deep. The bbq came in handy one night for a communal dinner, and another night we'd booked a table at the Royal Mail Hotel bistro in Dunkeld. Beautiful for walks too, though hope they get some rain sometime ...

"We were well-rewarded after a four hour drive from Melbourne to arrive at Mountain Duck Cottage - with a fire already lit and complimentary chocolates and wine a welcome treat. Our party was 2 families and a dog. We brought our bikes with us and the kids had fun riding along the tracks within the fa..."rm, as well as taking them out in the morning to check if the chickens had laid any eggs. The highlight for the kids (and dog) was the proliferation of rabbits which made for fun, though unsuccessful, capture the bunny games. The facilities in the cottage were great - absolutely wanted for nothing - we took advantage of the BBQ and the weather was (just) warm enough for the kids to enjoy the pool at the main homestead. The location nearer Dunkeld rather than Halls Gap worked out perfectly as there were a number of dog-friendly walks to do around Dunkeld as it is not in the National Park, so we ended up only leaving the dog alone at home for one of the days. We even had a bar lunch at the Ro...
