The choice of 3 restaurants catered for all tastes and pockets and the food was excellent. The wine choice was disappointing and dear though. Breakfast had a huge choice of food, with an additional menu of egg dishes cooked to order. The conservatory bar was lovely with squishy sofas and had a good view of the golf course, it was relaxing. There are quite a few rooms with similar furnishings to sit and relax in. We didn't try the gym or pool, but that looked great too. All the staff were so friendly and helpful.   "This was a two night stopover to tour in the area. The hotel is in the town and convenient for the station if you arrive by train. Whilst the hotel decor and room were not 21st Century boutique, the key things were right, namely: - the bed that was comfortable with decent linen - the bathroom that..." had a separate shower. (Pressure was low but it was the top of the hotel) - the breakfast (all you would expect and cooked to order, therefore hot) - the staff who were attentive - the menu choice for the evening meal that was varied - the price that wouldn't break the bank. OK - you are in the town so there is no view but the green area across the road is pleasant enough. And 'in the town' does not mean noisy. Hexham is close to Hadrian's Wall and Beamish Open Air Museum both of which are worth visiting. In summary - well worth staying here and you could pay much more for somewhere more flashy and in the country but still not improve much on basic needs for a short stay. " More >

Room 350 was a lovely big size, warm and comfy - though it real..."ly could have done with a bigger and nicer bath to be honest, even though the bathroom was large, the bath itself was just, well, standard, and not at all luxurious to fit the standard of the room or the hotel. In the past, we hadn't really bothered with he Spa area, so we treat ourselves this time after an 8 mile walk around Derwent Reservoir not far away the previous day. Our evening meal at the Claret jug was as nice as ever, it's rare that I ever have a burger, and at the price they are here, it is a REAL treat, but they are delicious.
