"Hello fellow travellers! Just wanted to share with you our experience at Casa Dora (http://casadora.yolasite.com/), a small, family-like lodge in the Island of Bubaque, in Guinea-Bissau. The place is run by Dora, a Portuguese long residing in the island, and her daughter Susana. They are very nice a..."nd helpful and make you feel truly at home. The rooms are spacious and immaculately clean. No luxury, but pretty confortable. And Dora makes the best grilled fish in the whole world! Be sure not to miss it! Also she is a great story teller, who knows much about the islands and its people and culture. Bubaque is a good base to explore the rest of the Bijagos archipelago, where you will find desert white sandy beaches and an almost unspoilt nature and culture. It's the perfect spot for those who like to get off the beaten track. Dora can fix you a visit to a local village (where you can have the luck to witness some amazing ceremonies or some tradicional music and dance) or a boat trip to go f...

"We arrived here one Friday night, after a five+ hour boat ride from the mainland (plus at least three hours of waiting to load and unload the boat). All this after an extremely hectic week spent coordinating construction of schools in a remote area in Bissora (mainland).
The best word that captur..."es my experience is "sanctuary". Our plans were to stay at one of the more expensive places that a travel agent had recommended. On the boat, we met a lawyer who called ahead for us and reserved five rooms for us, as well as to prepare dinner for our group.
So when we arrived, walking with flashlights in the dark along what passes for the main street (quite impassable by normal vehicle), my expectations were rather low. We found our rooms quite nice, in a recently built expansion of the facility.
One thing that has to be made clear up front about traveling to Guinea-Bissau, is to understand the total lack of infrastructure. In our week in Bissau, we had running water twice, electricit...

"Me and my friends have booked 2 rooms one month before, when we arrived we were quite happy to see we have done a good choice. Casa da Dora its a nice place to stay, the rooms are charming and clean, the restaurant food is not the cheapest but its quite good, the gardens offer you a relax atmosphere ..."to rest and read.
The staff is polite and helpful. I recommend you to go with cash on hand because there's not cash points in Bubaque, when you arrive you have to pay your booking ahead, its not common but it was fine we had no problems with it either.
Bubaque its beautiful, ideally place to relax and to visit the rest of the main islands. Its not touristic and the locals are really friendly. I have been on April 2013 for Easter holidays, during this time there was quite a lot of people from the capital on holidays and here was as well a music festival that last 3 days ;) if you rather a quite time then skip the Easter weekend.
