The hotel is a little basic, but what is expected from a small family hotel, the one negative was the constant train traffic through the night. Nearby there is great hiking on the mountains.   "The building Ospizio San Gottardo that hosts the hotel dates back to the 13th century. It has been declared as part of the European Heritage. After its renovation in 2010 it was inaugurated by the president of the Swiss Federation Mrs. Leuthard. This location has been reconstructed several times..." over the centuries. Goethe stayed in this house three times, Mendelssohn and Wagner stayed there too. On the north side of the building is a small chapel from the 16th century. At the beginning of the 20th century the house burned down completely, got partially refurbished but was forgotten for a long time. Since the Passo San Gottardo is such a historic place, several institutions decided to bring it back to its original, humble, rough but charismatic splendor.   "Stayed here by accident when the company I work for, the removal lorry broke down just outside on our way down to Italy. Opened up for us at 2am, was clean, comfortable and friendly! Amazingly beautiful place, I will return for a ski holiday, very tranquil! :)"
