  "Coach trip for long weekend with friends who were visiting a major show in Leipzig. Hotel directly opposite an open park, and there's a pleasant riverside walk by the park. 150 metres away is a beautiful castle/palace, well worth a look around. Apart from that, Merseburg itself has little to offer, ..."a few shops, hardly any bars or restaurants, although there was a small Xmas market in the castle walls while we were there. No nightlife at all. Not involved in the show, but travelled around. It's easy to get to Halle (15 mins in train) or Leipzig, where the railway station is also a huge 2-floor shopping mall. Halle's market place is OK, and Handel's house, now a museum, is close. Colditz castle is a comfortable day trip by bus/train. Can get to Berlin by train for a day. The hotel is very clean, with plenty of space. The room was also very clean and spacious. Not much space round the bar. The staff all speak excellent English.   "next to a beautiful castle, this hotel is did cost less than 80 Euro - during the week. The rooms were quiete and comfortable - where in Europe do you find such price/service ratio? The food with German wine was also excellent."
