Do not be put off by the approx. 7 kilometres of rough road into the valley. Any normal vehicle can manage this well provided you drive slowly and carefully. We stayed in a rondavel which was quite spacious and had attached bathroom facilities - hot water is supplied through a gas system which comes on automatically when you turn on the hot water tap. Because there is no external source of electricity, all power comes through the use of generators so we were limited to having electricity only between 5 pm and 10 pm.   "I stayed here in one of the rondavels for 2 nights and had an amazing time. It's really relaxing and quite cathartic - even with the fact that's there's only electricity from dusk till 10pm. The lodge is really well run with lots of activities and local community involvement. I did a village tour..." and a village dinner, both of which I would recommend. The rondavels themselves are very comfortable and such good value and the showers are great. The little coffee shop is a wonderful place to sit and waste a few hours.
