As it happens I only ended up here during my last day after a mad overnight Taxi-Brousse trip from Ranomofana to cram in a few hours sleep and a much needed sho..."wer after over a month of bushwalking and seriously roughing it in the national parks of Madagascar. This place was close to everything and seemingly away from the unfortunate in-your-face riff raff that I endured nearby where I ended up previously (and returned to inbetween) which was rather overpriced and not particularly nice in any way. This place is cheap, the character of the placer is lovely, the staff seem lovely and helpful and the area it sits in is also lovely. I recommend making a plan to stay somewhere such as this (I remember now the reason I ended up elsewhere was that no taxi drivers or anybody at the time knew where it was) and sticking to it. :) " More >

  "I was lucky enough to have stayed at Mandrare in April 2013. From the very start i knew Mandrare was a great choice, the staff were very professional, yet friendly and you instantly feel at home there. The camp is extremely clean and well looked after, from the main areas to the rooms i couldnt faul..."t it. (I saw a review below about bugs which i find really hard to believe, the housekeepers were brilliant and I cant remember seeing one bug in my room!) The activities are great from camp, really varied and interesting. You can go to the spiny forest, or the sacred deciduous forest for a walk to see lemurs and various other wildlife. You can also see the magnificent Baobab trees in he area which make for an ideal sundowner drinks spot. The guiding was superb and so was the cultural aspect.   "Stayed 4 separate nights during course of 2-week trip around Madagascar, upgrading to Deluxe room each time as these are invariably well-appointed (regular rooms vary) and most conveniently located (on the floors directly above the lobby). All were large attractive rooms with great views (2 had bal..."conies), great beds, linens, towels & amenities. Checking in & out was quick. Reception happily provided me with small bills (so I could tip the pleasant & efficient porters). Lobby WiFi was free & fast. Not a prostitute in sight! Ordered twice from Room Service, my grilled ham & cheese sandwich with fries arrived well within the stated 20-minute window quoted upon ordering, well-prepared & tastefully presented. Breakfast buffet was well-stocked, eggs & crepes cooked to order also available from a delightful man stationed on the terrace, who delivered my order to my table when ready (and helped me practice my rudimentary French, tho he spoke excellent English).
