  "Lovely hotel by the river in Chengde and handy for the shopping mall(shiny, designer and very Harrods!), local market(across bridge)and main shopping street with local Macdonalds! Lobby area of hotel is very sparkling and features two huge wooden elephants and a well-vegetated koi pond. The rooms ..."are clean and pleasant although just a little dated. Hard beds are good for posture and this was the very hardest bed I've ever encountered! I am sure my posture is now A*! Bed only sleepable on back! Also the hotel had decided summer had arrived and had turned off the central heating, their haste belied by the sheet ice under the bridge some 100m away! They were however quite happy to supply extra quilts and blankets for each room so not all bad! Stayed 2 nights- lovely chinese fare each evening. The hotel is an interesting combination of a luxury old-style china palace with some modern interior-design concepts. Our room was not so large but very comfortable and well equipped; the bathroom too was very functional, with evidence of a smart and careful design, effectively exploiting its limited dimensions. Hotel location is good (very near to the entrance of the Mountain Resort) but the entrance is at the end of a rather steep road, going up the hill: something quite uncomfortable if you are not so young or have an even minimal difficulty to climb.
