Just don't try to find this place after dark unless you know the way! First, the enclave was really quaint and set up sort of like..." a little village composed mostly of clapboard buildings. Second, my patio was fully screened, and it was very comfortable sitting and looking out at the pretty pool when I arrived (after being lost) late in the evening. Third, the room looked clean, except for a spot on the carpet near the efficiency kitchen, the lamp shades were nice and new, and the sheets and towels were welcoming to a tired traveler. Unfortunately, there were a few stray hairs and some other debris on the floor under the built-in sink counter in the bathroom. In saying that, the gated resort has a safe feel to it, which takes any vacation down a stress level. If your kids love to go, go, go - this is the resort for you. It's also a good resort for teenagers - with live music by the pool each day. If it's pure solitude you're after, Sanibel Island might cater to that more.
